I was thinking the same thing. I’m glad the man was successfully able to defend himself but I’m not seeing anything that indicates any special skill at shooting was involved.
It sure looks like it. An image search shows it frequently being used as the file photo on bump stock stories. A WSJ story has the caption on the photo reading - “A bump stock is installed on an AK-47 at Good Guys Gun and Range on Feb. 21 in Orem, Utah.”
Call that a yes.
The first thought I had was that was not the AK used in the fight.
Are there any Texas laws about magazine capacity on a rifle?
Yep. “As many as you think you need.” ![]()
Both sides were armed. Police reported several dozen shell casings in and around the house. Of the five home invaders, one died at the scene, one died driving away, one died after he fled on foot, and the other two were taken to a hospital for treatment. The homeowner appears to have survived unscathed.
The invasion crew may not have had a great deal of skill, but the homeowner hit every target.
The AK in the lead photo was a file photo.

I’m fairly confident silenus is right here and the great state of Texas does not place any legal limits on magazine capacity.
If you’re going to bring a gun to the fight, be sure to bring enough ammo for everyone.
Thanks, I might have to take a drive down to Orem this weekend.
I realize that, post 23, but it brought up the question.
In Texas I thought there would be laws concerning the smallest magazine you were allowed to carry.
nvm
They surely play fair next door.
Texas has pretty much no firearms laws beyond those at a Federal level.
They have come a long ways in the last few years. improvements in open carry, campus carry, etc.
Judging from the report, he was shooting a rifle multiple times at people who were in the same room. Hitting your target in such a situation is not a big accomplishment.
The fact that the other five guys managed to miss him in those circumstances goes well beyond them not having had a great deal of skill. It says they were amazingly incompetent.
Have we learned anything else, like he was bagging up pot when they broke in?
He was firing multiple rounds at people who were in the same room. At the same time those people were shooting at him. This was not some violent video game, or a Hollyweird movie.
It also depends on how many rounds the homeowner actually fired. Six people - firing rounds at each other - might be pretty chaotic, and it would be extremely loud. Deafening even. The homeowner is the only one who seems to have hit his intended targets.
You might not think it was, or not want it to be, a big accomplishment. I think that surviving a firefight against five attackers is a Grand Accomplishment.
I read a report that a child in the house was injured, but I cannot find a cite.
Wasn’t this the night of the eclipse? Spoooky!
Where did you see that the homeowner was a gang member?
