Home Movies Cancelled

No wait! Wait! My favorite movie is Brendon as the shrinking king who then shrunk his councellor. It was both funny and with very inventive if cheap special effects. At one point he’s standing on the queens handing holding the chancellor in his hand. Neat.

And now it’s time to pay the price.

OK, I take it back. It is easy for me to pick a best moment:

The fight between the Ren Faire nerds and the SciFi nerds in “Renaissance,” and Melissa’s role in instigating it. Being friends with both types of nerds, it is the episode I usually try (unsuccessfully) to use to get people interested in the show.

Yeah, I told Joel (I mean, Master Control) I thought that ending looked awful final, too.

What an insanely stupid rule. I know, I know, we can all think of series that should have ended before they became sad parodies of themselves, but cutting shows down in their prime stinks. Maybe it’s a good thing it has taken them over 2 years to come up with more than 6 episodes of Harvey Birdman. You know, make it last.

I wonder if the 52 rule is why we haven’t seen new eps of Inuyasha or Yu Yu Hakusho in a gazillion months. :stuck_out_tongue: No, probably not, I’m kidding.

Fortunately it doesn’t cover acquisitions ilke anime or those Kids WB shows only in house shows. But watch out for the “Aqua Teens” now made up to 42 and “Sealab” at 33. I bet they’ll keep making “Aqua Teens” though.

Secret songs!

Is that what happened to Justice League? The season finale would have been episodes 53-55, I think.

I personally loved where Jason got a girlfriends for like five seconds, then broke up with her because stalking her was more fun.

That promo song was pretty catchy too: “I am just a boy, a boy is what I am! I have a really red head. I am just a boy, that’s what I am.”

Is it wrong that I was attracted to Melissa? Not her physically, but her personality. Whatever.

I’ve heard that “Justice League” did fall victim to that but that the creaters then pitched “Justice League Unlimited” which will continue the story but in a new series with some changes. So there are ways around the rule.

It doesn’t look like that helps “Home Movies” though. Although I will not be surprised to see something come out from their ideas. Someone did an awesome trailer of Starboy and the Captain of Outer Space just for fun. Perhaps we’ll see a couple web animated shorts. Maybe a direct-to-video movie or episodes. For some reason dtv from these guys doesn’t scare me. Although right now I think they hit the perfect end note in the series. It felt right as a final episode.

Oh man, that sucks! Home Movies was easily my favorite show on Adult Swim. That goes away, while Aqua Teen Hunger Force lives on and they’re actually bringing back Family Guy. There’s no justice!

I don’t know that I’ve got a single favorite episode of Home Movies, but there are several favorite moments:

The scat battle between Brendon and Jason
The end of the Susan B. Anthony movie: “What’s the ‘B’ stand for?” “Bitchin’!”
“Don’t put marbles up your nose! put them in there do not put them in there

And there are a million more, usually with either McGurk or Jason or Walter & Perry, that I know I’m forgetting. I really hope they release a DVD.

Ever since I first saw this thread I’ve had that “I am just a boy” song going through my head. Sad, really.

I’ve got to chime in for the Renaissance Fair episode. Freaking hilarious. I laughed until I hurt at the fight between King Arthur and Robin Hood. And, of course, the very end: “So how was the fair?” “Eh, about the same as last year.”

I admit I didn’t like the show. Partly because of the animation style, even non-squilgly I didn’t like it…why are there hands the same color as their shirts? Is everyone wearing one piece, full body coverage leotards? But also, I HATED 90% of the voice acting. It sounded like every character had a freakin’ nasal infection!

Still, a lot of people did like it, so it’s sad to see it go, and it will probably be replaced with some crap-anime, or something.

Home Movies was pretty good, but I always liked Dr. Katz better. It’d be cool if the same group of writers, actors, and animators (no idea how much overlap there was between those three groups) stayed together to make a third show. I’d watch.

Wait wait, what? I find out about Samurai Jack and Home Movies in the same thread? Augh. My heart!

sheds a single tear

If you go to the “Cartoon Network Forums” at toonzone you’ll find a thread called “Samurai Jack new Episodes on 2004” thread which deals with this. We’ve got 4 more episodes to air. The thread had some insider info too without being spoilerish. What a sad, sad world being a fan is.

I am so bummed. I love home movies. It is weird because when I watched the last episode, I didn’t know the show had been cancelled and yet–seriously you guys, no joke–the episode somehow had the “feel” of a last episode.

Man, that show is great.

Man, am I bummed that it got cancelled.

oh wow! I had no idea there were so many fans on here! Home Movies is one of my all-time favourite shows. I seem to be in the minority though - I preferred the squigle look over the cleaned-up version. The earlier episodes were funnier, too, IMO.
Anyone know about possible DVD releases?

:frowning:

Man this sucks. I was a huge fan. I considered taking a 50% pay cut to go work with these guys cause I loved their stuff so much. At the time, however, they were pretty skeptical whether the show would even last another season (this is just before they went Flash animated). Half the pay and threat of lay offs made me turn down the offer.
Guess I’m just happy it lasted as long as it did. H Jon Benjamin and Bredan Small are geniuses.
I’ve been trying to track down a copy of “Who’s the Caboose” because Benjamin’s in it. As far as I know it’s never been released on video, though.

A sad, sad day for animation and comedy as a whole. Let’s hope we at least get a DVD of it with some making of’s.

Anyone know what Benjamin or Small are doing next?

My secret songs link is to Brendan Small’s website. Click on home and he talks about possible DVD releases in the March 29th entry. I hope it’s a big hit and will get “Dr. Katz” and even “Science Court” to DVD.

Yes! The sequence where she puts the spray paint can in the microwave is classic! It’s referencing some movie, but for the life of me I can’t think of what it was. Maybe El Mariachi?

Wasn’t Melissa dressed as a Borg at some point during this episode? Remember Walter and Perry trapped underneat the apple cart? “This is the best day of my life!”

I am so sad to hear about this. I really hope they get a DVD release of the whole series.

Done. Try stopping by BET Mondays @ 11:30 PM. It’s called “Hey Monie”. Brendan Small’s all grown up and still into black women (Brendan did like Melissa, didn’t he?).

People in common:

Voice Talent: Todd Barry, H. Jon Benjamin, Jonathan Katz, Will Le Bow, Laura Silverman

Producers: Loren Bouchard, Tom Snyder

There may be more overlap, but that’s all IMDB lists.
