Adult Swimmers unite!

The high point of my week used to be reading the new editions of the Onion online on Wednesdays, but now the anticipation of Sunday night Adult Swim cartoons on Cartoon Network keeps me from slitting my wrists for another week.

I realized this last night when I called out to my SO, who had fallen asleep after Home Movies, as is her custom, “Look honey! New Sealab next week!” Needless to say she was very pleased to be awakened by the news.

But hell, it was important to me. Important enough to start a thread and get some questions answered and discussions started.

I was a big SGC2C fan before the Swim started. Does anybody know if they’re going to do any more episodes, or are they going to focus on Sealab 2021 and Aqua Teen Hunger Force?

I’ll have to say that Aqua Teen Hunger Force has really grown on me. I was annoyed by it the first couple times I saw it, but last night’s episode (which has been on before) was the one that really changed my opinion. I now quote the Atari aliens from the moon (what are their names?) all the time. I all get are blank stares when I say “We smoke while we shoot the bird!”

At one time, the prospect of no more Space Ghost (if, indeed that is the case) would have seemed like armageddeon to me. But if they keep turning out Sealabs of such high quality, I think I could learn to live with only repeats.

Speaking of Sealab, does anybody know the name and artist of the song that closed out last night’s episode? It’s a rap song about Boba Fett which includes the line “Bounty huntin’ for Jabba the Hutt”

And what of Harvy Birdman? Are there only two episodes? (The Quest custody battle and Apache Cheif’s civil suit against pseudo-Starbucks) Did somebody pull the plug on that one already?

Anybody else notice that there aren’t very many commercials during Adult Swim time? Not that I’m complaining, but does that bode well for the future of the franchises?

Where’s the Brak Show? It hasn’t been on in a couple of weeks. Thunderclese (sp?) rocks my world.

Home Movies is another show that started off weak but has really come into its own. The characters have really fleshed out and they are starting to click together. But it’s a sitcom, and that’s to be expected. It always takes a little time for sitcoms to get going. Is Paula Poundstone still on the show, or have they replaced her with a sound alike?

Yes, my life is that pathetic.

And if your life is that pathetic, too, I invite you to post in this thread.

Not too pathetic, I hope, but I love Adult Swim!

There was a thread a week or two ago about bathroom feng shui and I was going to post and quote the episode of Sealab 2021 where the feng shui guy comes on board and redecorates the bathroom.

Captain:
Leave me alone for a few minutes, I’ve got to…get something down on paper.

Feng Shui Guy:
(sarcastically)Umm, that’s great. Know any good fart jokes?

Captain:
Yeah.

OK, after writing it down, I kind of think you had to be there. Maybe I am pathetic.

Cracks me up.

I love Adult Swim! Those cartoons crack me up.

Tibs.

Adult Swim is about the only TV I watch with any regularity. I’m glad they are finally making new episodes of SeaLab and ATHF. I also find some of the one-shot shows they are cycling through to be pretty good; I especially liked Saddle Rash.

I was somewhat disappointed when I saw the first new Home Movies episodes - they weren’t done in “squiggle-vision”! It just didn’t feel the same. But, I’ve grown used to the new format now.

Cartoon Network kept advertising new episodes of Harvey Birdman, but I haven’t seen any besides the first two. Wonder what happened…

Did anyone see Evan Dorkin’s Eltingville cartoon on Adult Swim? I’ve been a huge fan of the Eltingville segments in his comic book (Dork) and was eagerly awaiting it’s animated debut but apparently I missed it and there are no immediate reruns planned. :frowning:

Last night’s Adult Swim was my first. The Captain trapped under the soda machine was a scream, and the crew going on tour with the rapper was a hoot. “You can’t cage Rapper ???. He’s a bird, and birds gotta fly free!”

The ad-man pitch right afterwards was even funnier: “Surf’s Up!”

That, followed immediately by Space Ghost, Coast To Coast, and I was actually pleased to be awake late, doing laundry!

They are going to bring it back with twelve or so episodes in June. It took them longer than they thought to produce new episodes.

Well, a little internet digging answered most of my questions. Apparently, I’m not the only one who wonders about such things.

Tranquilis, the rapper is MC Chris, a writer on the show, and the guy who did “Fett’s Vette”, which is the song I was curious about.

Pochacco, I missed the Eltingville cartoon. Did anyone else see it?

Eltingville rocks! IMO it beats all the other Adult Swim shows hands down. I just happened to be watching TV when they showed Eltingville. Imagine my disappointment when I learned it was just a one time premiere, and that new episodes aren’t going to be produced for some time.

As for the rest of Adult Swim, all of it is pretty good stuff, but I just started watching and don’t usually get a chance to catch all the shows. My favorites have to be Sealab and Harvey Birdman.

Just to let people know, there is a website that has more info about Adult Swim including the upcoming schedules:

Lovin’ it. Lovin’ it all – well, all except Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

I’m looking forward to more of Welcome To Eltingville, as I’m not able to suitably deprecate myself and my nerdy hobbies and require a cartoon to help me.

Sealab 2021 is occasionally LOL funny, but I really tune in for SGC2C. I’ve been a fan for a long time. The Brak Show is another funny one.

I haven’t seen an episode of Harvey Birdman yet, but I want to.

I think the elimination of the squiggle was an all-around smart play. But I’ve always dug Home Movies:
“Melissa? Can you put Jason on the door?”

The Whitefish line from Harvey Birdman always cracks me up.

And I seriously dig Sealab’s theme. Gotta find a Calamine CD.

Favorite moments:

Frylock: “Man, if we don’t give meatwad his brain back, he’s just gonna float in the ocean and say ‘Do what now?’!”

Meatwad: “Do what now?”

I love the theme song from Sealab. The voices sound so sexy. And how many times have they blown that place up? Oh, and what happened to [sup][sub]Black[/sub][/sup] Debby?

And there must be a god who decreed that Home Movies should come on twice cause the first time is the same time as The Simpsons!

I feel like such an old lady…I never make it pass Baby Blues (Which I think is one of the funniest things on TV now) but it’s not nearly as funny as Home Movies. That show kills me…especially the Coach.

By strange coincidence, I happen to have gotten to know one of the animators from Aqua Teen Hunger Force. I can pass a few questions on to him if anyone would like.

Blackclaw, ask him/her if the Hunger Force will ever meet, or even get a clue as to the existence of, Dr. Weird.

“Hesh wants some sex!”

“I’m a knife, and I like knifing around. Cut cut cut cut cut cut cut cut…”

vibotronica, they are the Moonenites and they rock

I tried to register “Ignignot” as an AIM name and it was taken. I was terribly disappointed. I had to go get some wine and get tore up and pass out in the hot sun.

(I got a quad lazah, it will amaze ya!)

You will be happy to know that the creators of ATHF know that the Moonanites rock and have completed a episode called “Revenge of the Moonanites” for the new season.
I really dig Harvey Birdman and await anxiously for the new episodes plus the missing 2 from the first season…Boo Boo may be the Unabomber and Shaggy gets busted for something that is not Scooby Snax but ties in well with his character.
All in all…Adult Swim is well made…I even enjoy Home Movies…though the cuts to Cowboy Bebop and others is lame.

My favorite quotes:

Home Movies

Melissa: I can’t even act my way into a paper bag!

Brenden: Maybe it’s scurvey.
Melissa: I think only pirates get scurvey, Brenden.
Brenden: Yeah, the priate in me. That’s a good movie title; write that down.

Coach: Do you blink? 'Cause blinking shows you’re human.

Sea Lab 2021

I loved the soda machine episode; especially how it was singing to songs to “Hello Dolly”/Louis Armstrong:

“Well hello, customer…”
“And I think to myself, I need correct change…”
