Personally, I think any color is fine as long as it isn’t too dark or too saturated. Yellow is probably the only color that can’t be overdone… but yellow is by definition a light color. A dark yellow is going to be called brown or goldenrod or something else.
What drives me nuts are the people up here in Seattle. We walk around moaning that everything is grey and dreary and we think we mean the clouds, but we put on black and grey clothes, leave our beige and grey houses to get into our grey and white cars. Here’s a hint, people: if you want color, try using some! :smack:
Anyway, the original question mentioned selling houses. I always keep resale value in mind when I make major improvement decisions, but painting is something that 1) needs to be done periodically anyway and 2) isn’t so expensive that you couldn’t change it before you list the property. If you aren’t already planning a move in the next 3-5 years, I say make it the color you like and enjoy yourself.
