"Home Town Heroes" radio spots

On the oldies station in Chicago they are airing clips of soldiers overseas sending out holiday wishes to their families/friends in the Chicago area.

I assume that these are being aired all over the country with area specific spots. Who orchestrated this? It would seem that someone got the clips on site and then sorted them by geographic area to be played by the local stations. Is the military doing it? A private group? The radio stations?

I’m just asking because it must have been a logistical nightmare, and the clips were probably recorded some time ago. Do they do this every year?

“Clips” or audio recordings? I’ve seen such TV clips before plenty of times in my area. Don’t recall hearing any audio spots in my area, though it may just be the radio stations I listen to.

I don’t know how they were originally recorded, but I’ve been hearing them on the radio, now that you mention it, I have in the past seen such clips on the TV.

They are sent out by the local PAO (Public Affairs Office) where the soldier happens to be stationed and sent to the local media outlets. It is a voluntary program.
