Homeland--New Showtime Series (No Spoilers in OP)

anyone know anything about the Israeli mini serie it was based on?
does it follow the same plot?

Loving the show.

Yeah, the whole razor thing was intended to plant seeds of doubt about Saul. I also seem to have an impression that something about his interaction with the hot blonde wasn’t totally on the up-and-up.

One gut reaction I had to this episode was that Brody could stay clean-cut and shaven for maybe a week tops before having to start growing out his hair again to look realistic for capture in 3 years.

Had to stay away from the thread until I caught up on the last 3 episodes.

I really like what they did with Brody and the “Kid”. I think it would have been a little cheesy to have Brody turned, just from an ultra-case of Stockholm syndrome.
Was the Saudi diplomat’s wife the lady King-maker that has been courting Brody to run for office?

I ask only because the exterior of their house’s looked similar.

I couldn’t stop laughing at the yummy yum yum, put me on CNN and I’ll admit everything line last night.

That was pretty funny.

Good ep, but I think it was pretty clear there was going to be a bomb in the square.

Of course, I keep wondering why they are so intent on investigating Brody when they should really be worried about his wife who is actually a Lizard Queen from outers space intent on destroying earth!

Poor Carrie. She really is in love with Brody.

Yeah, but she’s off her meds.

Yeah. I’m surprised Sahrani wasn’t suspicious. Wouldn’t he be the one who’d have a briefcase, since he’s the one passing information?

I haven’t seen every episode. Seems like the Vice President might be a villain, just because he’s Jamey Sheridan. Do we have reason to suspect him, in addition to him asking Brody to run for office?

I felt really bad for Carrie. Brody noticed the mood setting stuff (everything but candles) but he hid it well, which I took to mean that he was trying not to hurt her.

Well, the Saudis told Brody that he would be asked to run for office. That might have been a guess on their part, or perhaps it was planned with the cooperation of the vice president. Basically the plot is very much like The Manchurian Candidate.

And wasn’t the closeted gay Saudi diplomat the one who told Brody that he would be asked to run? So Carrie never learned from him that Brody had been turned.

One of the best parts of the show is the opening sequence. The images and music really make me feel like I’m inside Carrie’s head. I feel her urgency and fragmentation, and her love of Miles Davis is the perfect counterpoint.

[nitpick]
It’s fiction, this is a casual conversation, but still: no one is “in love” with anyone at this stage of a relationship. Fixated, obsessed with, crushing, whatever… not love.
[/nitpick]

The fictional character, Carrie, is in love with the fictional character, Brody. I would think the “fictional” part is understood, especially when using their fictional names.

I wasn’t surprised Sahrani didn’t last long once he was made…and am now thinking the big cliffhanger for the season will be when the boss (who I can’t help referring to myself to as Inigo Montoya) is revealed to be a bad guy, as speculated about above.

I wasn’t saying “it’s fiction to think people can fall in love so fast”.

I was saying “Yes, I know it’s fiction” and I thought that would have been clear from the “but still…” part.

Carrie made a huge blunder there - she never even asked about Brody. The Saudi probably figured, “if they ain’t askin’, I’m not tellin’”.

Maybe she didn’t want Sahrani to know that they were watching Brody. Remember, Sahrani said he didn’t get information, he gave it.

Also, after Carrie told Brody she suspected him, if Brody is an agent, wouldn’t he tell his handlers that the jig is up?

Tonight’s episode was amazing, but from the previews, I’m thinking that after the finale I’ll either be going “Wow!” or “WTF?” Maybe both.

I just don’t see how what we saw in the previews will fit what we’ve seen so far.

My only guess is that Carrie will somehow convince Brody that he’s been duped. At least I hope he’s been duped.

Thanks for not mentioning specific stuff about the previews. I would please ask that if anyone does, spoiler box it, since I hate those damn things and I know a lot of other people do. Especially with a show like this, where you don’t know what will unfold.

Fantastic episode tonight! So do we now know that Carrie’s boss is complicit somehow?

I guess he could be, but couldn’t David be the mole? Brody didn’t call Saul, he called David (presumably).

Brody spilling the beans about his affair with Carrie after he made Carrie promise not to tell – when Carrie calms down, she’ll realize it means that Brody’s run for Congress is a ruse. Will she realize in time and will anyone listen to her?

This would be easier to figure out if Homeland wasn’t coming back for a second season. I suppose Brody could blow himself up and the second season would be figuring out who’s the mole, but that’d be disappointing.

Nitpicks: Carrie’s sister should have brought her meds when she was in the hospital. The vest should have been packaged in a box, a box that looks legit, something that wouldn’t pique anyone’s interest. Brody should have picked up the vest when the family wasn’t around. What if one of the kids wanted to go with him to get the toothbrush? What if they had a flat and needed the spare tire?
