Homeland: Starts Tonight On Showtime (Spoilers?)

Really like this show and it moves along at an amazing pace.

I am looking forward to the new season and seeing what happens tonight.

I read an interview with one of the writers and they hinted that this season was going to be very “dark” - which kind of made me laugh, as I would hardly consider the first two seasons to be a light-hearted frolic. Just wondering how much “darker” this series can get!

Yes, there are a few quibbles and nitpicks - Carrie is always seeming to hang on by 1/4 of a frayed thread and makes a tweaking meth addict seem laid back and mellow in comparison - but all in all, Homeland keeps me glued to the screen.

They pack a lot in each episode and certainly make me want to tune in the follow week/season(s) to see what happens.

Are they still going to be packaging up Hezbollah with al Queda, what will the next Jewish reference be for the loyal, wise, new CIA boss, and will the domestic TERRAH!!1! continue… ?!

. . .if anybody noticed, what with all the BB hoopla. Clare Danes seems to be trying to control her quivering chin, although she had several episodes of the weepies. The hour went by pretty quickly, so I guess it held our interest, but they need to pick up the pace pretty soon.

The military is quite upset about Homeland.

The Duffel blog is a satire site. I read this one today.

That was amusing. Actually, I used to work with a guy in the military whose wife could have been a twin for the actress.

Oh hell, I started a second thread after not seeing this one the first time through. I’ll ask a mod to merge it or something.

Didn’t see that ending coming.

For a nice change I’m actually somewhat interested in Dana’s storyline.

I love that this show has the balls to have a hero character shoot a kid.

Did anyone else catch the Inigo Montoya reference:

When the show Carie’s notepad with her manic scribblings, on one side it says “Nassir says, they killed his son, prepare to die”

Anyhoo, I liked the last two seasons, but it kinda feels like they burned through most of the premise already and the plot doesn’t really have anywhere to go. But hopefully they’ll prove me wrong.

(and I was feeling under the weather tonight, so I watched all the shows I had on my DVR back to back: Homeland, How I Met Your Mother and a Daily Show episode from last week. Bizarrely, all three had Mandy Patinkin jokes.)

I thought it was a great first episode - jumped right in, set up “today” and ready to move on.

I had never thought about the fact that a family of a “traitor/terrorist” would not be eligible for military benefits. I suppose it makes sense, but still kind of harsh for the family.

True, but the shooter (Peter) was noticably upset.

Carrie is self medicating with another tall strapping Ginger- Broady look-a-like

The annoying daughter Dana character I think will finally get a sympathetic edit, since we find out she tried to off herself, but I think she’s going to find herself in do-do with the Mylie Cyrus selfies.

And Saul turns on Carrie, she had to know it was coming.

So what did y’all think of the twist? I have to admit that I did not see that coming at all. Hopefully the show will pick up now; it feels like it’s been dragging its heels. Also I could not care less about Dana. I get that they want us to see the impact Brody’s actions have had on his family, but for some reason I find Dana incredibly annoying.

I liked the twist. Nice to have Saul and Carrie back on the same team again.

Oddly, I don’t hate the Dana stuff, though I get why others do. The actress is pretty good, and the story of her dealing with her Dad being the most hated man in America is kind of interesting, even if its not really the spy-vs-spy stuff most people watch the show for.

Rather then the Brody family stuff, I actually get bored with the internal CIA stuff. The CIA on this show is a mixture of incompetent and evil, so I’m not really invested in Saul’s and evil-goatee guys struggle to keep the Agency safe from Congress. Plus I kind of find it implausible that Congress would go after the CIA after an attack on Langley.

I think Brody himself is superflous now.

It’s not a coincidence that Brody is in Venezuela. We just haven’t found out why he’s there. I’m pretty sure that the CIA sent him to try to interact with the terrorist who is operating there (mentioned in this last episode).

I had a strong suspicion that Carrie’s behavior and incarceration were orchestrated to draw out whoever set off the bomb.

Without the dynamic of Carrie/Brody interaction the show is missing something vital this season.

Isn’t Saul the acting director of the entire CIA? I’m surprised he’s not busier managing an agency of thousands of employees. (I have an unfortunate habit of looking for realism in TV shows.)

And how did Brody get to Venezuela? Last we saw him, he was escaping to Canada while the entire government believed him a traitor. Now he’s working for the CIA? How’d that happen?

Well, to be fair, a sizable chunk of the staff got exploded at the end of last season.

I don’t think the show has said anything about him working for the CIA. He’s hiding with Carrie’s contacts in Venezuala (no idea how the most wanted man in the world manages to get there from Canada, but maybe they’ll show us later).

No, it hasn’t said anything about it yet, but I’m thinking the reveal will be that the CIA transported him there via tramp steamer or some such to make it look illicit, and then things went sideways with him being shot. Why her contacts are keeping him prisoner is anyone’s guess.

Does anyone want to speculate as to which point in time Saul and Carrie made their secret pact so that she would be approachable by the opposition? To me they made it obvious she didn’t expect Saul to throw her under the bus at the hearing, so it must have been after that…was it when she asked her dad to call Saul and tell him she’s “willing to do anything”? She genuinely seemed upset when her dad & sister didn’t show up for her discharge review, so was it after that too?
