I was wondering how they would resurrect this show after killing off Brody, but wow!! That was some excellent TV. I like the way they are woking Quinn back into the storyline and shifting the plot into an entirely new direction. Good job, guys!!
I didn’t like last season. I never bought the whole Carrie and Brodie are Romeo and Juliet. To me they were just damaged people using each other for support who fell in love. The whole “love conquers all” aspect got ridiculous after a while.
This season started off stronger. I was especially interested in the Aaryan story-line (I think that was his name). I am very curious to see how that goes.
Not sure what to make of Carrie almost murdering her baby, even if it was just for a second…
I’m intrigued by the storylines of the medical student, Lockhart’s treason, Saul’s career change, and even Quinn’s continued pining for Carrie. I’m also wondering if the showrunners will dare to go on presenting Carrie as this unlikeable–in previous seasons she was not always completely sympathetic, but…never to this extent.
Did anyone catch what Aayan (the Pakistani medical student whose mother and sister were killed by the US strike) hid in his friend’s house? And I’m wondering if he will become radicalized, or if he’s going to cooperate with the Americans.
And yes, the scene of Carrie bathing her daughter was really disturbing.
I’ve only watched episode one. A couple of things bothered me: the AF pilot “outing” Carrie as the CIA Station Chief and her trying to pass herself off as a Political Officer. First off, the Station Chief is a position known to the host government; secondly, if he had actually outed her, his ass would have been sitting in Leavenworth in short order. Another thing was Carrie referring to the capital of Afghanistan as ka-BOOL. It’s pronounced KAH-bull, as anybody in government service serving overseas knows. I know it’s nitpicks, but this kind of detail failure makes me nuts.
It looked like something medical (vaccine?), but since it was not refrigerated, I wonder. I also wonder if the fact that he had whatever it is he had means he’s already radicalized.
Thanks. Presumably we’ll find out later what it was that he hid. And when he was threatened, the goons appeared to be searching for something. So he was wise to hide whatever it was. (BTW, the actor looked familiar, so I looked him up. He was the lead in Life of Pi.)
Also, in the previous season, Saul blackmailed the Iranian intelligence official into becoming a spy for the US. I thought that would pay off in this season, but it doesn’t look like it will. I think this season is mostly going to take place in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
And Lockhart’s comment that, “It’s not even a country; it’s a fucking acronym” was amusing. And true. Per Wikipedia, Pakistan stands for “Punjab, North-West Frontier Province (Afgania Province), Kashmir, Sindh, and Baluchistan” with an I added.
Even with high def and zooming in, frame by frame, I couldn’t quite make it out. The only word I could read was “Inject”, but the bottles look like medical injection thingys anyway so that didn’t add much info.
I thought it was great, especially the mob scene just terrified the bejesus out of me. The way they filmed that it felt like you were in the car with them. I sort of miss that we won’t see anymore of Corey Stoll’s character, he was great in House of Cards season 1, this happening so quickly hardly gives you time to breathe. Great television.
I was literally shaking when Carrie let her baby go into the tub, but this is what depression looks like, it can become a really hateful monster. She pulled back from the edge but how far down the rabbit hole is the show going to take her? Terrifying, gut wrenching stuff.
Not sure which ep or if it even matters but they are making a bg deal of Quinn saving Carrie instead of helping the guy who got stomped to death. I don’t see that he had much of an option.
I think it’s only a big deal so the CIA can play mindfuck with him and keep him down on the farm. Quinn does have this unrequited love for Carrie, but he really had no choice.
I’m wondering if the issue about Quinn not giving enough aid to Sandy is something to do with having only X bullets left (and wanting to save them to use in defense of Carrie).
It’s all sort of fuzzy. There’s the element of the mob having been orchestrated by the (presumed) Pakistani Intelligence guy seen in the video, and there’s the element of an additional gun that should have been under the seat of that car, but wasn’t (but how could the Pakistani Intelligence guy have known what car would reach Sandy first? and who is working with them, removing guns from CIA-station vehicles?) And what happened to Sandy’s gun? Did Carrie have a gun?
I’m hoping that the writers won’t just hand-wave all this away; so far the new season seems pretty well grounded in plausibility, but this one crucial part of the story requires some clarification.
I haven’t read any further in the thread and just got through catching up with the series after recording the first episodes. I agree 100%! This show is among the best put together shows of recent years. What the actors suggest with non-verbal clues is as well done as their line readings and the direction is drawing so much tension out of every scene. The cast is excellent, as well. It’s like a new premise to the ideas of the show.
Compared with what’s available on broadcast channels Homeland is way ahead!
