Yes, I agree- great episode and amazing way to escalate the situation.
How did he know about the shock treatments? You could tell she was rattled about that but I’m not sure she was right that he made her (although since she’s working for CIA again, is a decent guess no matter what she says).
I thought about Estes being the mole, but wouldn’t he have shut down the whole operation against Brody? Admittedly, I don’t know how he could have done that without seeming hugely suspicious, but it seems like he would have stood in their way a bit more.
But I wouldn’t be sad if Estes were exposed as the mole if it got the character off the show. I’ve never cared for that actor.
I get distracted by how pointy his ears are. I think the actor might be a half-elf.
But yea, its pretty hard to make Estes the mole. He knew about the attempt on Nazir long ahead of time, but Nazir wasn’t warned until Brody texted him. So he can’t be working for Nazir, though I guess its possible he’s working for some third party. Sketchy new CIA guy is more likely, but that seems kinda too obvious.
Great great episode with a shocker of an ending. I have two questions though:
What did Dana say to the Veep that got him all huffy. I re-watched it a couple of times but couldn’t make it out with the way the actress was mumbling her lines (not really a slam on her, I think she’s a really good actress).
Some discussion above about who the mole in the CIA is. Do we know for sure that there is one, or are we just assuming that to be the case. I’m blanking but what happened in season one to make us think there is a mole?
So the show was officially renewed for another season just the other day.
What is Brody going to do to get out of this - how can this be spun to get him back on the VP track?
I gotta admit - didn’t see that ending coming.
They are burning through plot quickly…not dragging a single thing out too long - to the contrary, I would have thought they would have had more fun following Brody around, but perhaps that was the big plan - to end this covert operation quickly and clear Brody (somehow) and let him get back to what he was doing.
I don’t have the exact quote, but the Veep was riding his son for being a C student, and she said something (mumble mumble) was harder, “not like in his day.” I took it to imply she doesn’t think he’s very smart, either. I like Dana.
I’m going to re-watch the episode again tonight…but from memory he was talking about his son getting C’s on his report card, and she mentioned that he got an A on his last quiz. Then said something like he raised the standard, implying that his father didn’t do that great in school. (at least that was the impression I got)
I believe there was a mention of a mole in season one. Spoilered just in case (I know nothing of what happens in the season, but this is from an interview with a creator)
If you watch the 4 or 5 minute “behind the scenes” snippets on showtime, I believe one of them had and interview with one of the creators and he talked about the mole and said it was a conscious decision not to reveal who it was in Season One, and probably won’t reveal it in Season Two, if they even do at all because A) In real life the mole is rarely discovered and B) when they were making 24 it got to the point where the had multiple moles per season and wanted to go a different direction
VP is being a dick, joking that his son just needs a “gentleman’s C” to get into Yale. Dana defends the son, saying he got an A in their last test, and then comes back with “I don’t think they let you in with just a Gentleman’s C, things must’ve changed since back in your day”. A pretty good burn, IMHO.
Someone tipped off the sniper and the couple in the house by the airport as the CIA was getting close. It couldn’t have been Brody, as he didn’t know about the investigations (and IIRC, he was giving up on being a Terrorist at that point). So the Great Muslim Conspiracy must have at least one more highly placed agent.
(presumably the same person gave the news-reporter terrorista the info about the papers in Estes safe that Brody stole at the beginning of season 2 as well).
As somebody mentioned at the beginning of the season, the CIA is likely to try to turn Brody into a double (triple?) agent. The suspense will be in trying to figure out whose side he’s actually working for.
In Sunday’s episode (“New Car Smell”), I think one of the agents mentioned that there was a suicide bomber in the bunker with the vice president. That, of course, was Brody. But he took off the suicide vest and hid it in the garbage in the men’s room. So did they find the vest afterwards?
I assume the Veep is going to be instrumental in making sure he’s not embarrassed by “his guy” getting outed as a terrorist. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect Brody.
I think the Veep will kick Brody to the curb. Why hang on to him? Brody can never be trusted again.
I always liked that guy. He played Eames’ and Goren’s boss on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. I like his lopsided smile-- very cute.
I don’t think the Veep will even know about Brody. I think they’ll turn him triple agent and send him right back into his life as if nothing happened, and not even his wife and daughter will know.
Of course with this show I’m something like 0-30 when it comes to predicting things.
Saul shouldn’t have been so surprised when Carrie showed up on the video cam in Brody’s room. She’s always off the res.
Didn’t someone orchestrate Brody being in the room with the terrorist in custody? That led Brody to give him the razor blade, right? That would have been a mole.
Jessica gives this great speech about returning POW’s and understanding it takes time to adjust to civilian life and then she gets all in Brody’s case about not opening up. I personally don’t see how he’s coping as well as he is.
Love the show and also love that I can’t guess what’s coming next.
And after that, didn’t we see Saul fail a lie detector test? Or did he refuse to take it? I’ve forgotten.
I want to rewatch Carrie and Brody in the bar. She said she “saw something in his eyes” that told her he knew what she was doing. Did she really? Or was she pissed at his question about her ECT and wanted him taken down right now? And why did she whisper the comment about Nazir taking eight years of his life?
