Homeworld music extraction - no longer possible?

I’ve been trying to extract the up-tempo version of Sam Barber’s Agnus Dei from the Homeworld soundtrack and convert it to MP3 (or some other format I can get onto an audio CD), and am finding this rather tricky.

  1. Downloaded the Homeworld Music Extractor (homesong.exe). Still relatively easy to find.
  2. Ran the application. So far so good; AIF files show up.
  3. Found that none of my applications can play the AIF files.
  4. Learned that I need to apparently use a plugin for Winamp to translate Relic’s AIFs. All links to this plugin are 404 now.
  5. Even if I could find the plugin, I’m not sure how I’d convert the AIF to an MP3… but I know it’s been done, so it’s clearly possible.

And yeah, I looked around for the MP3 file. It’s also long gone from the ether.

Any ideas?

I’m unfamiliar with the Homeworld version of the song but I’m a big fan. It may be a poor substitute but William Orbit did an upbeat (read techno dance) version of it that is passable.

However, a quick search of download.com yielded some players that can play and convert AIF files. Such as:

Hope this helps.
