yes yes. 300 replies on my first post! That’s not bad.
The board says there are only 299 replies, not 300.
Aw shit…
Your point was to get replies?
OK, you heard it here first, folks - Orion has admitted he’s a troll. Thank you, and goodnight!

Now
I was just a bit amazed that I’ve got over 300 replies.
I think that both me and you people have given some good answers to this post. Of course it’s most me who had good answers since many of you have posted only bullshit.
But many of you’re replies where good.

Although I’m on my way out to cast my ballot against the Knight Initiative as soon as I finish writing this, I agree that it probably will pass. But I’m not that concerned about the long term. I am certain that when another state passes SSM legislation, it will receive its challenge in the U.S.S.C., where it must be found in violation of the full faith and credit provisions of the Constitution as it stands. The same will apply to the DoMA.
Oh, BTW, oh you who can’t possibly be Sirius, you are, in fact, a moron.
I think I speak for most of us here when I say “Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.”
On the other hand, I must say I was surprised, it’s not every day that a troll admits that their intent was just to get responses. In fact I’m not sure I’ve ever seen it happen before.
Kudos on the honesty there Orion. Now if you could do something about the blatant bigotry, trolling behavior, and inability to write a coherent sentence I think you would start to fit in around here.
You know, it is true - the first step towards intelligence is realizing that you’re not. Whodathunkit?

Alas, it did. {shuffling off to second class}
This has been my thinking all along. Then again, go check out the “Domestic Partnerships” thread - I had an interesting thought about the advantages and pitfalls of DP’s vs. SSM’s.

At the top of this page Orion(I’m seeing stars!)Orion attributed a quote to me that I did not make. But I wish I had said it, and I totally agree with it. This is a pretty weak 1500th post, but at least I was mistaken for Esprix!
Gawrsh, I’m flattered… :o
Thanks, Slythe. Personally, I think it’s a great 1500th post!

Oh, will you two just get a room?!
I haven’t been in Great Debates for a while until today, and when I saw this thread, I couldn’t ignore it. I have now spent about an hour and a half in two separate sittings reading this thing when I could have been taking care of other things I need to do, so I’m not going to leave without some sort of response. So, here it is:
Hi, my name is neuro-trash grrrl, and I am a lesbian. I have read a lot of things in this thread that have outraged me, but I have come out of this with a really good feeling, because I have seen logic so unskillfully wielded by those who would deny me the same rights and privileges enjoyed by heterosexuals, and that same logic so skillfully applied by people who believe that gays should have equal rights, which I am gratified to see includes the majority of the contributors to this thread, most of whom are straight.
And I have a message for those among you who believe “my kind” to be inferior and worthy of eradication, not that I think you’ll read it or understand it: You heterosexuals (not all of you, just the bigoted ones) take your sexual orientation for granted. You spend your lives in the majority, and have come to anoint yourselves as the representatives of all that is “normal” and “pure” in this world. You can flaunt your heterosexual feelings without ever giving them a second thought. Do you know what it is like when the shoe is on the other foot? Do you have any idea how it is to be regarded as a deviant or a pervert for having feelings and urges that feel completely natural to you? I don’t think you do, but I do, SqrlCub and Esprix and Otto do, and Flinx sure as hell does. And the other posters, if they don’t, can put themselves in our shoes. I am capable of love. I am capable of knowing what is wrong and right. And I can see that others are as well, even if they express this in ways alien to me. So, if you would care to step down from your great ivory towers where all is black and white, and get a good whiff of the real world, you might learn something about tolerance and compassion. But if you don’t, that’s fine too, it doesn’t change anything for me, and I won’t try to change your mind. I will respect your opinions. Just as long as you stay out of my way, and don’t cause the next Matthew Shepard.
And to those of you who would restrict your acts of intolerance to gay men, but permit me to continue having sex with women, your hypocrisy makes me sick even though it works in my favor.
And, finally, to those of you who don’t like the act of gay sex and are revolted by it, but respect my right to do it if I want, thank you. I don’t like mayonnaise, but if you want to put it on a sandwich, that’s fine with me.
In conclusion, I would just like to add that I’m not trying to re-ignite any fires, merely to add my two cents worth to a thread that has consumed so much of my time, and in an odd way, restored my belief that there is tolerance in this world, and that someday, I will be able to marry and adopt children if I so choose. Thanks to all except a couple, who know who they are.
Heck is where you go when you don’t believe in Gosh.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh… it’s so refreshing to hear a woman’s point of view.
Actually, they’re too dim to know, really, let alone read through a post of more than two sentences with words bigger than two syllables.
Still, the rest of us get your point.

After having listened to, considering, and partipating in this forum and others like it, I am prepared to do a quasi flip-flop on my former position. Some observations to date:
-
The OP is a troll, who has not considered both sides of this issue.
-
Discrimination against homosexuals solely on that basis does exist.
-
The solution to this discrimination will not be found in legislation allowing SSM.
Marriage makes certain legal priveleges & benefits available to married couples that are not available to unmarried couples-whether they be opposite gender or same sex. (A note here-as a single person, my tax rate is greater than it would be if I were married-discrimination against single people?) However, marriage as we know and accept it, is an invention of the hetero sexual world.
Marriage certainly needs defending. I/m not sure that the first line of that defense should be against homosexual partnerships. It already has enough problems of its own-divorce, infidelity, abuse. It needs to clean up it’s own house (the mote in the eye clause).
No, homosexuality should most assuredly not be a crime. Those who believe so, and advocate legislating or continuing discriminating against it ignore the simple fact that such actions will not make it go away. Their argument ise like the rabid anti-gun crowd, who think that outlawing guns will somehow solve the crime problem. It won’s unless you can disinvent the firearm. Same way with homosexuality. All the laws on the books will not stop homosexuality from being.
I’ll have to continue this post later…I’m late for work
The gay and lesbian people makes a big mistake when they try get all this rights by comparing them selves with the history of the black people and their fight.
This can’t be compared and I find it very unsavoury. Gays live by a totally different moral than normal human beings do.
The gay’s and lesbians knows that their lifestyle is wrong, but they just don’t want to see this because they have a very low moral standard.
Homosexual are alays trying to use other groups in society, like blacks, jews, indians, women etc. And of course they use the history against these groups so that they can get support from them. Or more correct, they steal their history if you ask me. It’s pathetic.
They seems to be clutching at straw if you ask me.
Thank you CalifBoomer, for one of your first sensible, thought out posts (IMHO).
Orion, you are still trolling. What do you care if the gay lifestyle is wrong in your opinion. If so, don’t do gay things. That means, don’t do anything involved in style or fashion since the majority of gay style gets copied by straight people in a few years (like the goattee, colognes, clothing). Don’t go to musicals, dances, opera, art shows, et cetera unless you know for certain that the composers or performers are straight. Don’t watch television unless you can be certain that all of the producers, directors, actors, and any other person involved are straight. Just stay in your little black and white box and leave the rest of the world to a reasoned existence.
HUGS!
