Honey, he wants to lay you, really badly...

Applebee’s customer leaves $10,000 tip for waitress.

They aren’t sure what the motive is for the huge tip yet. My bet’s on “honey, there’s another tip he’d like to give you.”

Is there a leering smiley?

Could be a lonely guy who doesn’t know how to interact with women, and hopes the tip will make her more than a little appreciative of him. Or could just be a nice guy with more money than he knows what to do with, and wants to help out someone who’s nice to him that he knows could use it.

Either way, damn. Lucky girl.

If I had the money, I’d leave tips like that. I appreciate someone who makes one’s day brighter.

(And, while I might fantasize that it would make an attractive female server more favourably inclined to me (in the nudge-nudge wink-wink sense), I certainly wouldn’t expect it. And on second thought, from her viewpoint, that would seem a bit disturbing. But if I’d been coming in to the same place for three years and the server and I had gotten to know each other a bit, presumably I’d have some sense of what would be appropriate.)

Especially if it was a bartender you’ve seen a couple times a month for three years, who’s always been nice and friendly, and whose dad is going to be off work for surgery on both knees. It doesn’t sound like she knew he was loaded and then hit him up for money with a story about dad needing an operation, so why not?

If I was rolling in money, I might do that sort of thing, too.

Heh. Very As Good as It Gets. Good for her.

Moved from IMHO to MPSIMS.

I’m just wondering if bartenders and servers at Applebee’s pool their tips. What part of that $10K will have to be shared with the servers, hosts and busboys?

Look down your own blouse, honey.

He could have not tipped her at all. He could have given her the shaft.

I would too, except for the part about eating at Applebee’s.

Bolding 1: Why in the happy hell is it a great deal for you? The only ones this should be a great deal for are the waitress who got the tip and the lucky bastard busboy who happened to share her shift (assuming he gets the standard 10% – and I’d certainly be calling bullshit if they tried to snake the busboy’s cut away from him).

Bolding 2: Why are they making it sound like they’re doing the waitress a favor? I realize the charge has to be confirmed, but wtf? Hey manager lady – she got a tip, give her her damn money – stop trying to make it like you have anything to do with this story.

Eh, they’re getting free advertising, so they’re hamming it up. Not that big a deal. And probably they are happy that she’ll get the money.

Hal:

Because they can tell people they employ a waitress so good, she got a five-figure tip.

Chill out, management isn’t ALWAYS trying to screw over labor.

Heh heh heh.

Nah, service better be mega super fucking awesomely sweet, cmkeller. Bet you that the manager tried to play up the “My employee got this good of a tip because of my training!” angle.

Jeez Louise, I thought I was cynical. The only reason a man would ever be extremely generous to a woman is because he wants to get into her pants. Couldn’t be that he’s just a really nice person, naw, there just has to be more to it. Couldn’t be that he’s well-off and amortized a more generous tip over the three years that he’d been coming there, naw, he has to be just on the make.

What the hell is our society coming to when we can’t just accept generosity at face value?

I’ll anwer your question for twenty bucks!

Dude’s probably beating his head against a wall now, because he meant to leave a $26 tip on his $10,000 bar tab. He was regretting that 5 martini lunch the next day, I bet.

That, or we’ll be seeing one of those Citibank Visa card with fraud protection commercials with some poor schlep victim talking in an overdubbed voice about what awesome tips he leaves real soon.

Bitch still hasn’t called me…

Are you saying that if someone with whom you had a casual-but-friendly working relationship suddenly gave you $10,000 out of the blue, you wouldn’t wonder for a moment if he was working some kind of angle?

The whole “he wants to do you” thing is tongue-in-cheek, but I am waiting raptly to find out what this dude wants. Sorry if that makes me a cynic. :frowning:
