Honor Harrington movie?

I get The Mira Furlan voice, but Julia Stiles???

Brian

How about Angelina Jolie?

I’d pick another member of the B-5 cast, Claudia Christian.

Seconded enthusiastically, especially after seeing her in uniform with an eye patch in Sky Captain. She’s the first choice for both me and one of my close friends, but as he observed, she’s no longer young enough for the job if the movie turns out to be successful enough for them to turn it into a lengthy series. Given that prolong is an essential part of the books, you’d need to start with someone pretty young if you want to make a lot of movies.

I think a young newcomer would be best. None of the actresses mentioned so far have both qualities(height and presence) that would be necessary. Eyes no problem, contacts for color and the epicanthic fold would be easy too(assuming the chosen one doesn’t already have it.)

What’s going to be hard is doing Nimitz.

Mira furlan?? Hell no. Totally the wrong accent. Remember, HH has a cultured speech, no accents mentioned anywhere.
Personally I think they need someone new for it. There are many actresses with skill waiting in the sidelines and this way they can put more into the rest of the cast and special effects. This movie would take some serious CG to pull off.

I agree with Baker…what about Nimitz? CGI isn’t going to cut it here, and they can’t leave him out. If they make him a cat or something, I’m gonna be pissed!

Put me in the camp with Baker and rabbit; find an ‘unknown’ who’s not going to have quite the tendancy to impose her own personality on Captain Harrington.

As to Nimitz, i don’t think you will be able to get away from the CGI; this is a major secondary player and substituting a terrestrial critter just ain’t gonna get it.

Man, i hope they’re really serious about this; the probability of making a mediocre (or worse) hash of it approaches unity…

Unlikely. David Weber hates, loathes and despises her.

Absolutley not, David Weber likes her about the same as Steadholder Mueller likes Honor Harrington. Long story. (ah, I see Der Trihs has beaten me to that.

I’d go for Claudia Christian or Julie Dreyfus, but yeah, probably neither of them are young enough for the role. The problem is, the ideal actress for Honor would have to both LOOK like she’s in her very early 20s, yet ACT like she’s in her mid-50s. She would also have to be tall, but with modern special effects (and platform shoes) that part isn’t so problematic.

I’d like to nominate Clive Owen for some character or another. Not sure which, don’t really care which. I’d say Alistar McKeon, but I’m pretty sure he’s supposed to be a reasonably squat fellow.

I usually visualize Vin Diesel as Kevin Usher (since he’s supposed to be a tall and powerful sort), though I can’t make myself hear him talk with a French accent.

And yeah, Nimitz would pretty much have to be CGI. Though I suppose they could make him an animatronic treecat that just stays perched on things, and when he moves about on his own make him furry grey blur.

Hmmm maybe Andy Serkis is free to play him.

Angelina Jolie definately has the right look to play Honor but if Weber dislikes her thats unlikely.

She’s working on something called Star Hyke, playing a character named “Captain Belinda Blowhard”, which sounds more like a parody of Harrington than anyhing else.

That sounds like a porno.

Anyway, the other name which occurs to me is Keira Knightely

No, you’re thinking of Star Dyke.

I wasn’t familiar with this actress so I looked her up, and you know, she might suit. She’s young, hardly twenty-one. I don’t know about her height, but there are ways to compensate. If she can act tough she might do very well. I need to go watch some of her movies, none of which I seem to have seen.

Linky no worky.

She, to me, lacks the gravitas required. I’d sugest you see King Arthur, but I would not wish that on anybody.

I agree with Baker (and others)…someone new and young. Gods I hope they get someone good. I’m floored…I hope they don’t fuck this up. If they do it right…ye gods!

They could cast Samantha Bee as Honor Harrington for all I care – just so long as the cinemative version of the Honorverse uses good physics. No audible explosions in space, no ignoring Newton’s Laws of Motion, no spaceships that move without expelling any reaction mass, etc.

Then it wouldn’t be Honor Harrington. Impeller drives don’t use reaction mass.
