When Janeane Garafalo shows me her educational background in political science, environemental science, sociology, economics, or any other related or semi-related topic, I might care what she thinks. This goes for any other political comentator out there, Republican or Democratic. I don’t care what the Dixie Chicks or Bruce Springstein think, I don’t care what Martin Sheen thinks, I don’t care what Ahnold thinks, or what Jay Leno thinks. I don’t care what Sean Hannity thinks, or Joe Scarborough thinks, or Chris Matthews thinks. I don’t care what Rush Limbaugh thinks, or what Al Franken thinks, or what they think of each other. I want the facts, unfortunately very few people actually present the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
Alas, this is why I struggle with supporting the Democratic party
Ok, I just listened to this (opens windows media file) clip of Janeane Garafolo and I am not impressed. Apparently I am an American Idiot. I am emotionally immature, I am cruel, I’m a racist, I am stone cold stupid, have anger management issues, I am a ‘nasty mo-fo’, and dumb with a low consciousness and I have no critical thinking ability.
If this is the best, or even representative of her show, I am not impressed. Mocking, insulting, and name-calling isn’t convincing anyone. I don’t listen to any talk radio, but I am guessing that both sides sound alot like this sample. This isn’t politics, this is grade-school nanny-nanny boo-boo. some more.
If I wanted name-calling, I’d open more political threads on the SDMB.
I’m not sure why you Republicans in this thread even play along with this crap.
Hey Democrats, are you evil, or just stupid? Please tell us in detail just what makes you so incapable of rational thought. While you’re at it, please don’t forget to denounce the Democratic party, because ‘everyone knows’ they are both evil and stupid.
Last chance to redeem yourselves!
Of course, I offer this in the purest spirit of civility and cooperation. So all you ‘good’ Democrats willing to renounce the rest of them, speak up!
Let me spell this out for you Sam. Yes there are crooks, liars, and thieves on both sides of the aisle and maybe even a few in the middle. If we could only call ourselves good people if the policital party we belong to is completely devoid of evildoers we’d all be screwed.
Don’t you think this is different, though? Don’t you think this administration is 100 times worse than the usual? Whenever we go to the polls, we make a choice between “the lesser of two evils.” In the past I’ve always been comforted by the fact that either person winning isn’t going to make all that much of a difference. It was different in 2004. I’m now very concerned with where my country is going, and it’s because the “Republicans” are in control, and not acting like Republicans.
Where is their honor? How much of their political crap are you going to let them force feed you before you decide you’ve had enough? George W. Bush is wearing my religion on his sleeve, showing the world he’s a deeply religious person. Meanwhile when someone in the office next to his violates national security, what does he do? NOTHING. This is an honorable, Christian man? A good person would have talked to Rove when this happened and done one of two things: he’d either fire him immediately, or stand by him and publically proclaim his innocence. Instead, like he always does - George W. Bush playing politics.
As a fellow Christian - I’m ashamed and outraged by his lack of character. As a fellow Republican, you should be too.
Sam, you ignore the substantiated points in the OP.
Visit Langley someday in Washington DC. Off to the corner is a decorated wall; emblazened with gold stars, one for each intelligence officer who made the ultimate sacrifice. In most cases, we don’t know their names: they lived and died under cover.
Those endangering the lives of our agents - who ask for and expect no public recognition for their efforts - for cheap political purposes should feel a tenacious, uncleansable sense of shame.
It’s really not that difficult. Don’t burn the country’s intelligence assets.
Valerie Plame can no longer work undercover. Every foreign official that worked with her is now potentially under suspicion. The cover of her place of work was also blown. Every employee of that shell corp has also been IDed, along with their contacts.
And the ramifications continue. I quote Jim Marcinkowski, former CIA case officer:
This is no way to fight international terrorism or weapons proliferation. The Executive branch needs to do some spring cleaning, even if it confuses their base of support.
A question remains, however: which modern US conservatives place country above ideology?
As was reading so many posts where people talk about how unbelievably awful our governement is, I remembered a thread I started 3 years ago right after the midterms called "I am in Despair ". I was mocked for being a drama queen…
I only drop in occasionally…does anyone know if Lieu, for instance, still stands by these words:
Maybe I’ll ask him the same question he asked me:
I wonder if Rickjay feels quite as strongly as he did then:
He…just found this challenge of mine from that thread:
My pet theory is that Sam is encouraging Americans to vote GOP so that our nation will self-destruct that much quicker, leaving us all easy pickins’ from Canada’s secret squad of hockey-stick-wielding commandos ready to swarm over our northern border, annex us, and make us all memorize Bob and Doug McKenzie routines.
You’re much too subtle for my taste. Too me, Sam’s just a gutless and bloodthirsty, cheerleadin’ lockstepper from afar. Not to mention a braggart and an insufferable prick, but then again, no need to be unduly harsh. 'cause, you see, it’s all done under the cover of faux politeness – a self-appointed cosmopolitan version of december if you will.
BTW, great thread, Slacker. Wish honorable Americans such as yourself all the best in wrestling your nation back from those who’ve led it so far down the gutter.
Wasn’t that long ago that I mostly admired your nation. Would that I’d be given the chance one more time. And I know that I am hardly alone in expressing said feelings.
