HOORAY, it's almost Anzac Day!

Yes, I noticed on my calendar that April 25th is Anzac Day in Australia and New Zealand. I just love Anzac Day, don’t you? The pomp, the pageantry, the wonderful costumes, the scantily clad women, and the revelry.

Oh alright, I have no idea what Anzac Day is all about.

'Splain me about it please, thou underworldly Dopers.

Check it out here. No mention of buxom babes or wild drunken revelry. Sorry.

In a nutshell, ANZAC stands for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps, and ANZAC Day is a public holiday specifically for remembering the Aussies and New Zealanders who served in war.

There’s a dawn service, speeches and - unfortunately - a surplus of politicians who can’t pass up a photo opportunity. The themes of the day include honour, mateship, respect and acknowledgment of the sacrifices of those who fought for our countries.

Anyway, while there’s definitely plenty of pomp, it’s a solemn event in which bright costumes and scantily clad female revellers don’t actually factor. It’s very formal and dignified.

However… I have to say that the idea of an ANZAC Day with a mardi gras theme is so completely at odds with the actuality that the mental imagery involved sent me into a complete giggling fit.
