According to my desk calendar, today (August 1) is both the Swiss National Day, and Horses’ Day. I more or less understand the first, but when did horses get their own day (albeit shared with the Swiss)? What’s an appropriate gift for a horse? Do Swiss horses get double presents?
It could just relate to the fact that in the Southern Hemisphere racehorses become another year older on 1 August each year. This is because they are born in August to November each year.
In the Northern Hemisphere they are aged at 1 January.
Alternatively it could be some Planet of the Apes kind of thing.
