Why is that? Do you find people at RenFaires or in SCA who dress up in costumes disturbing because it’s not a sexual kink?
I’m not a fursuiter, so your attempt at wit failed. I will note, however, that you have nothing constructive to say about my remarks, so they must be true; you aren’t interested in facts, just insults.
I am curious, though, about your online contacts with furries. Where was this? What places do you frequent where furries talk about how they always wear their fursuits and are obsessed with sex?
I think Ren Fair people are kind of lame too, but at least they don’t go around doing that shit 24/7 and expecting everybody else to take them seriously.
Yeah, I know I get tired of waiting behind the fursuiters in the store. Their damn tails get caught in my shopping cart. And it’s like every third person, too. You can’t get away from them.
Where do you get the idea (which you keep bringing up) that furries “do that shit 24/7”? Is this more of your “I heard someone say they know someone who does it, therefore they all do it” bullshit?
Various message boards (they really seem to enjoy defending themselves on Something Awful for some reason).
What Dio said about the whole fantasy world thing is what I think bugs me most. Really, it’s just this intense feeling of revulsion that I can feel coming up automatically in the back of my throat - same thing I get with the hentai freaks, the body manipulation people, extreme BDSM, hardcore libertarians, etc.
Eh, he’s really not worth bothering about. Anyone remotely familiar with the board should know Dio’s opinion on a given topic is harder to change than a flat tire at 80 miles per hour.
And despite my last post, I’m compelled to respond to this one, as it’s proof you haven’t actually been reading. They imagine themselves to be such. You know, imagination? That childish quality most people are supposed to have beaten out of them before they can be called grown up? The most anyone’s said on this board is that they wear cat ears, which is a hell of a far cry from bona fide fursuits. It’s a headband with decoration on it, nothing more.
I disagree that wearing cat ears is any less inane than wearing a whole suit. I also think that devoting so much time to “imagining” oneself as a stuffed animal is still stunted and childish and creepy. Stuff like like this:
is fucking psychobabble, man. These people need to grow up.
Unfortunately, I do have to agree that a significant number of people in the furry community (and other online geek communities) tend to be emotionally stunted, sometimes alarmingly so. It’s more a function of finding them online than in the furry community specifically, though. The internet is an outlet for people who can’t or don’t want to deal with the real world, whether they’re just refusing to grow up or they have some real psychological issues. It’s why you often see an unusual percentage of people identify as having autism or Asperger’s Syndrome online; issues are easier to cope with on the internet than in person.
I’ve run into a number of people in various communities who, for example, cannot deal with negativity. The instant anyone reacts in anything less than a huggly cuddly squee manner, everyone starts spazzing and the person being negative is jumped on for disrupting the lovefest, no matter how justified their complaint was. These are the people who desperately wish they were something they weren’t and go overboard with the alternate personas. This isn’t limited to furries; you find it in all sorts of online communities. Furries are just the poster child for the weirdness.
That said, I don’t think STG or anyone else on this board is that emotionally stunted. She’s had something of an insular life, as anyone who’s seen her posts in IMHO and MPSIMS know, but on the whole she comes across as a stable individual who just enjoys the furry concept.
Think what you will, of course, but I try to treat individuals on how they behave, not what they’re interested in. I think it’s unfair to go “Oh, hey, yeah, I’ve known you for a while and you’re a pretty decent person- wait, you like THAT? Jesus christ, you freak!”
