Amazing you got anything. Lately the lawyers figure out ways to take ALL the money from these things. In one bankruptcy I was on the supposed receiving end of, the lawyers sent me a form wanting me to turn over all remaining funds to a Lawyer’s Education Award Fund!
As I recall, the allegation was that DRAM was deliberately overpriced, or something like that. Thus if you bought any during a certain timeframe, whether directly or indirectly, you were entitled to a refund.
I bought a computer, which is how I got into the pool. I had totally forgotten about it, until my check arrived.
Anybody got a time machine? I want to go back about 100 years, so that I can REALLY party!
I got $92! I didn’t remember applying for it, either. I knew it was a settlement check because I’ve gotten them before, but I was only expecting a few dollars. I’m still waiting for my $50 of free tuna, but the company is fighting that one, I think.
A tutoring company I used to work for had to pay up because it didn’t give workers the breaks it was required to. I got about 90 bucks out of it. If I had been there longer during the time window covered by the lawsuit, I’d have made bank!
I’ve received several checks in the $10 or so category for class-action suits (don’t have my tuna money, either). On a brighter note, a couple years ago I got a $100 check from AOL and I have no recollection of filing a claim for that. That was a pleasant surprise.
Maybe 4-5 years ago I randomly got a check from AOL for some class-action suit that I didn’t even remember signing up for. It was for about $1,000, after taxes I think I got around $600-700.
I always fill these things out when I receive them. I figure if they’re sending it to me, somebody has determined I am due money and they even helpfully provide the return postage.
