Hot Dogs -- Now with Bacon

I know this article is a shameless plug, and I’m complicit in helping it along, but I know how much people on this Board adore BACON:

Well, that sounds good, but a vendor at the farmer’s market where I used to live wrapped hot dogs in bacon and then grilled them until they were black and crispy. That was … I have to go now and wipe my chin.

Hmmm, I don’t know about this. I love bacon as much as the next guy, assuming the next guy can claim to have eaten a pound of cooked bacon a few times at a late-night buffet after the bars close, but I have reservations. I once mixed real bacon bits into hamburger, expecting a culinary mouthgasm. Not so much. Kinda tasted lame. A couple strips on-top is far superior to bacon bits cooked right in. The new dog might be a similar situation.

Now bacon *and *cheese in the hotdog? Well, then you’ve got something. Braised in butter.

Please. Make the bacon go away. I am so sick of everything being gussied up in bacon. I thought this trend was going to die three or four years ago, but here we are. Look, I like bacon, but, really, come on.

Is that new to the Americas? We’ve had bacon and cheese sausages for years in northern Europe, and they’re honestly pretty good.

I’m kind of agreeing with you - I use it for topping meat loaf, to wrap around a cheese stuffed hotdog or in sandwiches (grilled cheese w/bacon, BLT).

Now I’m hearing adds for deli lunchmeat that is made with bacon. Seriously. This is getting idiotic.

Now I’m hearing ads for deli lunchmeat that is made with bacon. Seriousy. This (and my spelling - I blame it on the headache I’m dealing with now) is getting idiotic.

Wow. Actually bacon in, instead of on, the hot dog. Phenomenal. It sounds like black magic to me.

Just in case any one wants to learn how to make hot fogs, you can check out this great video.

Agree. Bacon is all about texture and the salty goodness which would be lost inside the hot dog. I used to go to this one hot dog joint that would sell dogs with bacon on top. That shit was good.

As American as obesity, juvenile diabetes, and angioplasty! peace/katie

Has anyone tried it yet?

I had some on Saturday and they aren’t too bad. The bacon taste wasn’t overpowering but kind of in the background. To me, it was just right.

That’s my favorite way to make hot fogs.

Ouch. That’s a bad typo! :o

The problem is that it’s in a cheap Oscar Myer hot dog. Put it in a good quality natural-casing dog from the deli department, and I’d be interested.

Better though to put it on, rather than in IMO. This is coming from the guy next to **Face Intentionally Left Blank, **or at least the guy next to the guy next to him.
