Tim Conway’sgoing to be on next Wednesday, competing with Carl Reiner for Betty White’s affections. They should just throw Emmys at each other. Conway has six, Reiner has seven, White has six and is currently nominated for a seventh. Tomorrow night: Shirley Knight, Hal Linden, and Juliet Mills! It’s good to see all these old pros.
This show is really is getting much better as it goes along. I’m glad it got a 2nd season. Though if White croaks and they try to continue the show I suspect it’ll go downhill fast.
I like all four women, but thought the first couple of episodes were weak; I like Jane Leeves because of her Frasier role, but her character didn’t have much dialogue or personality in the first few eps. Of course I love Betty White. I was surprised and pleased at the double entendres because I didn’t think TV Land would be that liberal about the dialogue. The most recent episode (meet the parents) was really good and had me laughing, and Jane Leeves had a more substantive part in it, so I think it’s getting better. I’ve got my DVR set to record it…for now.
Does anyone else thing that Valerie has gone back to her pre-Jenny weight? (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
Yeah, I thought she looked like she’d gained some back, but I agree - nothing wrong with that! On the other hand, Jane Leeves is too skinny; she had a nice curvy figure in Frasier. Nothing wrong with skinny either, except I think it ages her. And I think curvy Valerie is sexier than skinny Jane.
I just finished episode 5 and 6. Five was very good. I also noticed Valarie is packing it on again. It doesn’t help that Leeves and Mallick are bone thin.
The guest casting on this show rocks!!!. Wayne Knight is always welcome (Ep 5) and Hal Linden still looks great. And Juliet Mills as Leeves mum, well too bad we only saw her via the laptop.
Ep 6 once again, needed better writing. The plot was too predictable and hating your mother was funny when Rhoda did it on “Mary Tyler Moore,” but now it seems impossible for any female TV character not to dislike her mum. Hey why not try something different if you’re a writer.
And Leeves verus White is still one of the highlights of the show. I hope the writers keep up the hatred between the characters. It’s great to see Leeves playing the part of someone who has a slight mean streak and is on the end of insults as well as giving them out. Nice change from her Fraiser character.
