Hotel of Heroes mafia

Plankton, as I mentioned before, I don’t think we’ve ever managed to have an early mass claim. So we don’t have any evidence about how effective or ineffective it might be. The theories about how useful it is or isn’t are completely untested.

peeker, I understand your concerns, but I think we’re better players than that.

and i am sure this is getting boring as shit for some of you folks but i enjoy having reasoned discussions with folks, especially pleo. this despite the fact that i agree with him less than 10 percent of the time. now regarding your mass claim early. do you propose that everyone claim truthfully? that’s gonna make this boring as shit if that happens. so i assume you acknowledge that scum will claim something other than scum, most likely niller. and i also kind of assume that you don’t want the town power roles to disclose themselves on Day 1 especially since scum most likely won’t be telling the truth.

i continue to propose that we all claim vanilla town with some randomly assigned name (or shit pick your own for all i care). then we will be able to judge it’s effectiveness.

and although burby went first i am still spartacus.

neta: i can determine the effectiveness if everyone actually claims honestly.

town: woot the woot. way to go.

scum: god it sucks being us.

I wouldn’t expect town power roles to necessarily claim truthfully or falsely. There’s risks either way. Truthful claims allow the town to coordinate actions and reveal information promptly, while risking Night kills. False claims reduce the risk of Night kills, but delay the revelation of results.

As always, power roles need to make the choices themselves.

Whoa, Ed wasn’t even voting for him? My mistake then. I thought that’s what had caused the anger/outburst.

I’m just checking in to let everyone know I’m faithfully reading along with the thread. I’ve just been crazy busy with work + freelance jobs.

I’m still collating data, as they say, but expect a classic Astral Rejection infodump later when I’ve collected my thoughts. See you guys in a few hours!

Did you mean to say more likely for a scum than a town player?

I’ve played a lot of games with Ed, and nothing I’ve seen would lead me to believe that he’s more emotionally fragile as scum than as town.

Metagame theories are common on Day 1, and I get that, but this game seems to have a lot of discussion about them. And I do think that most of the theories put forward by Pants that are rubbing the veterans the wrong way, rub us the wrong way due to their metagame components.

It is making me realize that metagame hunches are sort of like picking your nose. Sometimes it is necessary to do, but it is better (socially speaking) to do it in private or at least try to hide it behind a tissue. Not the best analogy, but I think it applies to Mafia as well. You can have metagame hunches and even vote by them if you wish, but at least try to wrap them in some non-metagame kleenex before you put it out on the table, especially if you want to be at all persuasive. Otherwise it just looks like an ugly booger/bogy.

<snipped>

kind of but kind of not.

i mean pleo and idle’s theory that mass claims of whatever sort are very helpful for town make my head explode. because i just don’t see it. but yaknow they keep doing it and i keep going aaaiiiieeee but at least we seem to understand that it’s kind of null all along.

pants has been a little more in your face. i think at some point he was or is considering voting for someone that did not agree with his “name”/“goodie baddie” idea as a criteria.

i mean idle and pleo seem to want to pick their boogers and just smear them on the underside of the table. pants seems to want to roll the fucker up and fling it across the table at someone. but as i said before, shit he does have the strength of his convictions and i give him cred for that. even though i think he is full of poo along with idle and pleo. but 31 flavors my friends, 31 flavors.

This is true.

However, when I realized that I was reacting in a way in which I didn’t want to react, that was reason enough to quit. I think my consistently poor play recently has frustrated me more than I realized.

Mahaloth did ask me to take 24 hours to think it through.

At this point, because of events that happened after I decided it was best to leave and regardless of how I feel about it now, I think my presence would be more of a distraction to the game than Mahaloth and the players deserve. Hopefully Mahaloth has a sub available at this point.

peeker,

I’d just like to take this opportunity to tell you how much I enjoy reading your posts…they bring a certain color to the proceedings that never fails to elicit a chuckle or two…

I’m not always certain if I’m laughing *with *you, or laughing *at *you, but it’s always worth the read

I’m sorry to hear that, because I actually enjoy butting heads with you, but you gotta do what you think is best.

Does this mean we’ve going to start having to decipher those funny pronouns again?

If you’re truly leaving us Ed, I hope you don’t mind that I have my fingers crossed that when we get a sub, its a girl. adjusts the box of pink cigars

If that were the only reason, then I would agree. However, that is only 1 of several (I only added 2 reasons in addition to reasons others had already covered.)

My point there in isolation is that I don’t think it is unreasonable for Scum to latch onto a questionable “bad play” and beat that drum. It is neither the sole nor main reason for my vote.

That being said, it’s very hard to come up with any concrete reasons so early in the game, so I’m not fixated on my vote - once more people speak up I’m perfectly willing to switch it.

You can’t really vote on people that haven’t said anything at all so while we have 18 players, the “voting pool” at this point is more like half that.

Nope.

I assume you’ll be retracting your vote, then?

Some folks (especially on Day 1, when there’s not much else to go on) do in fact vote for people for nonparticipation-- “Lynch the Lurker”, it’s called. It’s necessary to do so at least occasionally, or all the Scum could just keep quiet and coast through the game.

ScubaBen is replacing SpecialEd

Welcome Scuba!

Good news! I’m coming in off the bench.

Bad news – it’s me.

Give me some time to get caught up.

I’m a lurker by nature (see join date plus total posts) so I tend not to post that often even in Mafia. As the days go on I promise to become more active, it’s just hard to get too excited about claiming/not claiming and other Day 1 discussions.

Also, Welcome ScubaBen!

So the answer is yes

Welcome, Scuba_Ben! Hope you’ve been keeping score at home…

I never said nor do I think mass claims are helpful to Town, nesscarily. I just don’t mind to claim myself.

<snipped>

well at least you admit it was a “bad play”. is there any reason why you think that scum would latch onto that more than town? matter of fact it would seem that it would be a town that would hold you to task as opposed to scum, right? i mean your scum buddies would let it slide hoping that town would not see the futility in your arguments and hoping that town would not hold you accountible.

i mean do you really think that scum are the only folks paying attention?

and i understand the other pillar of your vote being your personal feelings about another player. poor play, very poor play. i mean when two of the tripod are gone you are left riding a unicycle. yep, the vote on unicycly man will stand.
