I’ve been using Google Chrome for a few weeks now and I love it, there’s only one problem - I use a Hotmail account and it doesn’t work properly in it. (well, that and Time Warner’s site - but the TW site specifically says my browser isn’t supported)
When I go to Hotmail it loads up and shows all the messages in my inbox, except I can’t click on any of the links inside of it… it’s just unresponsive. I’m wondering if this is because Microsoft is a poor sport about competing browsers and purposely disables functionality for Chrome users, or if there is a way to fix this. Anyone else using Chrome and Hotmail?
It’s a “known issue” and the problem is said to be on MS’ end and they claim to be working on it as “fast as they can.”. One could argue that sine Chrome is such a small portion of the market, it’s understandable that MS wouldn’t be in that big if a hurry to fix the problem. However, given that MS has gone out of their in the past to render sites unusable for people running Opera (which has probably about the same marketshare as Chrome), I wouldn’t put it past them to be doing the same thing with Chrome. TechCrunch had a piece on the problem, IIRC.
That might indicate that it’s a problem with the Webkit (?) engine that both use. Apparently there’s a beta of Chrome which passes the Acid 3 test 100% (ditto Safari). Perhaps that might be worth trying?
There’s problems with Opera 9 as well. Can’t type in text to send a message (I use the mobile Hotmail page for that). Just noticed the other day that I can no longer save attachments. Etc.
Note that some of these problems may not be all MS. Opera supplies a script package to handle several “trouble” sites and I wonder if Opera’s Hotmail fixes are making things worse.
Wow, weird. I went to About Google Chrome and it says I’m up-to-date, which was confusing since I hadn’t downloaded any updates. Then all of a sudden Hotmail works. Guess it’s auto-updating.
