Hotmail question

I use hotmail as my primary e-mail server. In the past few years, I have used up almost all of the alloted space they give you for storing old e-mails on their server. My question is this: How can I save the archived messages to my local hard drive, thus freeing up space? And do I have to do it message by message, or is there a way to download entire folders of messages at once? Thanks for your help

I don’t have a hotmail account, but there is a way to do it for Excite email, and I’m pretty sure it works for Hotmail as well.

Anyway, if you have OutLook Express, go to Tools --> Accounts --> Add --> Mail

Then just follow the instructions…when it asks for your incoming and outgoing mail server name, just type in the address that you use to retrieve your hotmail emails (the address that shows up after you log in to your email account).

Also, make sure you check the box that says ‘leave a copy of the emails on the server’, if you don’t want all the old emails deleted from the hotmail account as soon as you download them.

I think hotmail also has an option to set up a POP mail account, which would allow you to send all of your hotmail emails to a seperate (non-hotmail) email account.

Or, if that doesn’t work, you could always cut and paste the emails into Word or Textpad and save them as .txt files.
