Hottest of the televison geek girls.

If the poll was “Kaylee or Chloe” (or “Jewel or Allison”) with no other restrictions, I’d have voted for Kaylee/Jewel.

Fair enough. Let’s blame Skald for causing the problem in the first place.

Although a Kaylee/Chloe catfight would be…

I’ll be in mah bunk.

Over in about 4 seconds*!

*(Same with my bunk time…)

Okay, we might have to agree to disagree on the definitions we’re using of the term ‘Geek.’

To me, a geek can be a hero, definitely does not need to stay out of danger, and ‘push buttons’.

Simon is a geek character, in my opinion, because:

  • He’s very smart.
  • He’s interested in a subject (medicine) to the point of routinely overwhelming casual interest in his pursuits with enthusiastic explanations.
  • He’s socially awkward and exhibits the characteristics of a ‘fish out of water.’ Note that in Simon’s case, this is relative - as has been shown many times, in the sort of culture he grew up in, he is much more socially smooth and comfortable. That doesn’t stop him from becoming a geek on ‘Serenity’ or the outback planets.

I think I’d even consider Simon’s obsession with his sister’s welfare, his sacrificing a rich doctor’s life to save her from the Academy, to be somewhat geeky - it was a kind of romantic and naive adventure that somehow more or less worked.

If you are going to bring up real life geeks…

…then my vote (sorry Mythbusters Kari) is for that extremely hot Cosmologist babe that they use as an expert on the Science show ‘Universe’. Holy smokin smokey smokes of a smoke…she is hot!

I’d go for Emma Caulfield (Anya) over Alyson Hannigan (Willow) on Buffy,

and Tamara Taylor (Cam) over Emily Deschanel (Bones) on Bones,

Morena Baccarin (Inara) over Jewel Staite (Kaylee) on Firefly.

I guess that tells me that I don’t really think the geeky girls are hot simply by nature of being geeky girls.

Amy Mainzer? OMG YES!

Sorry, but I callled dibs on her back in January.

When I saw the title I thought of that girl from Mythbusters, but that aint fictional and she isn’t on the list.

So I went for Emily Deschanel on the basis that I have no idea what she looks like, but her last name is Deschanel so she must be Zoe’s sister, and therefore probably hot… Aaaaand having just googled her name. Can I take my vote back?

I noticed no one else in the thread said anything, so I call second dibs. Hope you don’t have any… ‘accidents.’

Your definition of geek fits my own. chrisk’s usage seems to more closely match what I think of as a nerd. To wit, Wil Wheaton is a geek. Wesley Crusher is a nerd.

Along similar lines to your explanation for Simon:

Kaylee is absolutely a geek, because…

-Kaylee is extremely smart - so innately talented at fixin’ ships that she diagnoses Serenity’s engine troubles mid-coitus, despite never having been onboard a Firefly-class ship before that day.
-She’s interested in a subject (mechanic work/ engineering) to the point that she spends her one chance to go to a fancy-schmancy rich-people ball talking engines with a bunch of old men.
-She’s (sometimes) socially awkward, both in the common geeky way of being tongue-tied around her crush, and at the aforementioned fancy party. Part of this comes from the fact that she and Simon are from opposite social strata, but if his strain of foot-in-mouth disease when placed in “lower class” situations qualifies him for geekhood, so must Kaylee’s similar condition when placed in “high class” situations.

The question is essentially “If these were real people, which one would be hotter?” Not only only do the actresses not act like the characters in real life, they often don’t dress like them, and how you dress is quite important to how hot you are. For example, I seriously doubt you’d say this pic is of Abby Sciuto.

This is also the reason why the Hoshi pic is cheating–the character doesn’t dress like that. That’s her evil counterpart.

Penelope Garcia from criminal minds-----Oh baby!!!

Sending out level 14 Death spiders to your location scald, you are done!!! bwahahahahah

Whoa, so now we have competition for the position of Overlord of Deadly Killer Arthropods? Bugfight!

FINE! {you bastard}

She is a bit young for me anyway. I’ll take the older one that they use as an expert on The Universe. She isn’t nearly that hot…actually closer to plain…but she looks fine, around my age and is extremely enthusiastic about Cosmology. Amy Mainzer looks like she could be a bit stuck up but this ohter woman looks like she’d be fun.

Agreed! See here and here.

Hubba hubba!

I voted Jewel for her cuteness and warmth of spirit. Close were Amy, Emily, and Allyson. Emily is probably the closest to actually “hot” though.

Amy was on Angel and Dollhouse, not Bones.

So who wants to do a hottest of geek boys?

Pistols at dawn, sir, pistols at dawn. Kirsten Vangsness has got it going on. Big time, tall tower, full power.

My sentiments exactly! Knowing that Pauley actually knows stuff (and is a humanitarian too) only ratchets up the hotness factor big time. Jewel Staite is nice and all, but all she seems to know about in her personal life (via her Twitter) is food. Her entire life is eating in restaurants. Boring!

Olivia Munn does have the geek cred, and upping said cred is that she’s now shtupping Captain Kirk. Oh yeah.

Easy one. I’m a straight-as-an-arrow dude, and I’d switch teams for Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs fame. Not a traditional geek, sure, but his self-deprecating humor and smarts mark him as a geek at heart.
