Hottest people who are also brilliant musicians

60 posts in and not even one mention of Lisa Loeb? What’s wrong with you people?

Oh, I think Loeb is hot as all get out, but I wasn’t going to rate her as a “brilliant” musician. Don’t know her work that well beyond Stay and the one with the “Hello Kitty” vid

I agree whole-heartedly with Alistair’s list. I did introduce him to Nellie McKay, though, so I get to be best man at the wedding. My wife Regina Spektor will of course be DJ-ing the event.

I do love Robbie Robertson, but I always favored Rick Danko.

Charlie Hunter annoys me because any man that pretty doesn’t need to be that talented. Leave the 8-string guitar virtuosity for us normal people so we can get girls.

Same for Corinne Bailey Rae, Joss Stone, David Bowie, John Mayer, Norah Jones…

*Stewart Copeland [AND he can ride a horse too!]
*Trent Reznor, esp when he had long hair. OM, NOM, NOM.
*Vivian Campbell, one of rock’s most underrated guitar players.
*David Bowie. Mmmmmm…
*Siouxie Sioux. Gods, but she’s gorgeous!

I was going to say him, but I didn’t want to look like a complete dork. He’s not so much hot as looks completely huggable.

Oh my lord, yes. I know Scorsese was criticized for showing too much of him during The Last Waltz, but I can’t blame him.

My pick for hottest rock chick is Shirley Manson.

In my heart, I’ve been Barry Manilow’s wife since 1972.

But I admit Weird Al is both brilliant and hot.

David Bowie and Nick Cave.

**Dave Wyndorf. ** * Monster Magnet *is one of the most incredibly talented hard rock bands of the last two decades, maybe of all time, with some brilliant aesthetic qualities that aren’t necessarily widely enough recognized but nonetheless make considerations like massive popularity somewhat beside the point. While the guys all play damned well, the source and propulsive energy of most of MoMag’s artistic magnificence is **Mr. David Wyndorf **-- a vocalist of great sonic and emotional range; composer and lyricist of the songs that are MoMag’s greatness – some of which are underrated but approach genius and can stand as poetry by grace of their resonances, subtleties and grab-your-heart-by-the-ass wildfire energetic – who also produces MoMag’s music and plays (non-lead) guitar.

Mr W is all that, and he is one sexy mofo, too. Look at some photos or of [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8ZoTPQENb8]him in motion– he’s heat and light, lust and pride, joy and cruelty and rage, with moves that prove he’s either Lord Pan’s favorite bastard, or a cirrocco given man shape. And that long, beautiful hair he’s got, and his wicked, intelligent eyes, how it must feel to have those eyes look upon you fiercely and ablaze with lust…

Aaaaah. Aaaiiiee . Mmmmm…

uh, excuse me a moment, please (DLux takes a long shivering breath and manages to compose himself).

Moving right along…there’s also Jennifer Herrema, one-half of the nucleus of the still-lamented Royal Trux. A unique and incredible vocalist with outlaw poet sensibilities, and she can have her way with my gayboy ass anytime, any way and however long she wants to.

Ahem…do the long-deceased count, if they qualify as both great musicians and sex gods? Because if they do, I must place **Jimi Hendrix **at the third apex of my triangle. One of the most gifted and brilliant instrumentalists ever to walk the Earth (or be recorded, anyway). And oh my Sweet Infernal Lord of Lust, was he ever a sexy man.

could somebody who knows what s/he is doing please fix the links I tried to insert in that messed up message i just now posted, please?

sorry about that, people. i just can’t figure out how to do that. shouldn’t have even tried

How about Michael Jackson … when he caught fire?

For males, I think Prince takes the cake. He’s sexiness condensed into an adorable little package. And he’s almost inarguably brilliant as a musician.

For females, I wish I could say Kate Bush - I think she’s the most brilliant female musician. But I don’t think she’s “hot.” Pretty and cute, yes. For looks I’d say Beyonce, but I don’t think she’s brilliant - just a good singer. I guess I don’t really know who to pick. Regina Spektor is a good choice, but I feel like there’s got to be a better one.

Are you kidding? No love for Emmy Rossum ? The voice of an angel and a face to match.

More Emmy.

73 posts and no one has mentioned Faith Hill yet?

I’m not a big C&W fan, but whenever I see her, the phrase “impossibly beautiful” comes to mind.

J.

Stepping a bit further from the mainstream, how about Amanda Palmer from the Dresden Dolls? Probably the most well-known song she’s done is Coin-Operated Boy, but that one doesn’t even begin to hint at her talent. The music itself is always incredible, but even more striking are her lyrics, which could easily stand alone as poetry and yet are perfectly complimented by her compositions.

And she looks like a delightfully evil pin-up.

Just wait a while, junior.

Amy Lee of Evanescence is just hot, hot, hot. She’s got the voice of an angel but I don’t know if that’s “brilliant musician” or not. She’s a musician & composer but her strength is her voice.

Shame all their first two albums suffer from SSS (Sound so same) syndrome so badly.

A couple of weeks ago, I bought the Mark Knopler - Emmylou Harris album “All the Roadrunning”. Even if I were a blind man and no one had every described her to me, when she sang, “If I were one of them Gibsons … You could plug me in and play me anytime”, I decided that if she were ever to sing that to me in person, she could pretty much have her way with me. If she wanted.

I gotta disagree with a lot of these, but I’m glad that I was reminded of David Bowie and Prince. I’m not attracted to them, but it can’t be denied they’re good looking fellas.

Thread closed. I win.
