After a couple of weeks of working out the kinks in the system, the service level has risen quite a bit. Plus its just a really good value. Mrsrobgruver and I can see a movie, have a beer/wine, and a sandwich/salad for $30. Not to shabby as going to any of the big Megaplexes is the same price and you get crappy Mr. Pibb and three year old Goobers.
West Oaks Mall? I thought y’all were planning a Dopefest in Houston, not freakin’ East San Antonio! I only cross Beltway 8 by air.
OK, Ok, even though (1) y’all probably don’t know who I am since I’m relatively new and (2) my wife would think I’m weird for meeting with folks I met on the Internet, I’m down for hanging out if y’all go to a bar inside the loop afterwards. Please keep us posted on which bar you’ll head to.
It’s at the intersection of Westheimer and Highway 6, way out on the west side of town. The theater is on the side of the mall that is opposite the side that faces Highway 6. I just know there’s a better way to word that sentence, but I’m very tired…
Something like that would be great for Sunday afternoon (on a purely selfish level; I wouldn’t have to drive all the way to frickin’ Lousiana for you people ;)), except Aaron doesn’t do movies yet.
Otherwise known as First Colony Mall? That’s the mall on Highway 6 and Westheimer. I was out there taking pictures at George Bush Park on Tuesday evening.
If it’s the same mall, just take 59S from downtown/the 610 loop. In light traffic it’ll only take about 15 mins to get there from the loop @ 59S. Took me about an hour to get there from the Friendswood area, and it was on the tail end of rush hour.
I actually wouldn’t mind going to the Alamo Draft House since I used to go to a place like that in Minneapolis, and it was really cool and I enjoyed it a lot (and it’s indoors), but I have to work Sunday and I’ve been in a horrible, horrible mood lately and am not feeling very social at all. Not to mention the fact that I am almost totally broke.
Here in Mall City (AKA West Houston), West Oaks got the Alamo Drafthouse because of the City of Sugar Land Health Department and their totally restrictive rules.
Count your blessings. Another place considered for it was at Town and Country, the World’s Longest Continually Failing Mall.
(My new best client does real estate law for most of the malls around here.)
I will bend my no-mall rule if there is an outside entrance. I have not, willingly or unwillingly, set foot in a mall in 3 years, and plan to never do so again, if possible.
My mother is turning my brother’s wedding into an even bigger production than it is, plus she forgot to plan Aaron’s birthday in the mess. That’ll be postponed to August 3rd to ensure that as many people will be there as possible. (The more relatives, the more presents. Checks are easier to transport on the plane than presents. Gotta think of Aaron’s future, y’know. ;))
