Thirteen was decent, but Taub, Cunter [sic] and Amber were horrible.
My theory on why Chase, Foreman and Cameron worked while Taub, Cunter, Thirteen and Foreman didn’t was that House’s team was meant to act as the personality traits House didn’t have.
Chase was House’s hands in the operating room. He was like the soldier to House’s general.
Cameron represents compassion, always looking at how the interpersonal relationships affect the case, as House is stunted socially and emotionally.
Foreman, in the early episodes, represented anger and passion, but later, represented lust, particularly for power and recognition. (As House becomes less interested in his job, Foreman becomes more and more interested.)
Wilson, as always represents House’s conscience.
Of the ducklings, Thirteen was the only one who had diagnostic skills that even qualified her for the job. Personally, I would have recommended firing them all and re-doing the whole resume process. A veterinarian and a plastic surgeon? Seriously? Kutner was just incredibly inept. I’m surprised he didn’t kill somebody already. However, he’s a much better diagnostician through sheer luck and BS writing than Taub, which really says a lot about Taub. Amber has had more effect on the story since she died, so I think they found just the right way to use her.
Overall, I think the whole “new team” thing was not only poorly handled, and the actors chosen as replacement not a good fit, but really, House/Laurie is the star, like Michael Jordan and he needs good role players around him, not distractions.
But, it’s pretty much back to status quo now. All the ducklings are gone, and Cameron, Chase, and Foreman are reunited. There’s some chance Thirteen will return, but not likely, given that Chase’s current story arc will likely dominate this season (as well it should, you really need to watch “The Tyrant” (6:3) to see how big it is.) House also gets some good laughs with his “healing” this season, with plenty of snark all around.
