House worked on two cases and risked more jail time.
What was the deal with the girl—was she pregnant or not?

Nope, she had cancer that caused her tests to show pregnancy.
Did this episode start with the POTW or was it just House and the team talking?
It opened with House sitting at his desk right before his team enters the room.
The dad in the anger-mgmt group was very good at making me very sad. The sad offset the humour in this show. Stalemate!
Two thoughts:
Is there any reason why House can’t work on more than one case at at time? I assume he sticks with one because the type of cases he gets are highly unusual, so there aren’t a lot of them. But if two patients came in at the same time, both with unusual symptoms, wouldn’t he treat them both? All other doctors can tend to multiple patients.
The scriptwriters did him a big favor. If the disease hadn’t been genetic (something House didn’t know until the end of the show), he’d be off to jail.
You guys don’t like the Asian doctor, but she has provided a hilarious backdrop.
I’m still reeling from her question to the prison-kid-doctor when she gave her the boots: “What do I have to do for these boots? Put them on while you masturbate?”
Last night’s episode, she was grilling Chase unmercifully. He finally turned to her and said, “Did House give you homework?”
I live for the one-liners on that show!
The grieving father did a magnificent job. He LOOKED like he spent all his time crying. Of course, his constant nipping at the pint bottle in his coat contributed to the red nose effect, but the man’s pain was obvious.

I was actually really impressed with the actor playing the mother’s current husband. While barely saying a word, he managed quite effectively to go from portraying “I’m going to take your head off and stuff it down your neck” morphing into “Oh my God, you’re telling me my kid was going to die but you’ve figured it out and you can stop it?” in a few short seconds.
I’ve been enjoying this season a lot. I still hope it’s the last one, and I wish they’d tone down the “OMG, House is going to get caught by the police doing something he shouldn’t!” suspenseful moments, but other than that, the season has been kind of a throwback to the old House and that’s a good thing.
The opening threw me for a loop. I thought the network had started the show early and my DVR started recording in the middle of the show. I was about to delete it when the title opening came on. Weird. For some reason, I just didn’t stay in the show this week. We didn’t get the setup for the patients. I have no idea why House was trying to find out what killed the dead kid, or why the girl came to the hospital…they just were…there.
I did laugh out loud when House and the dad were in the ex-wife’s place, they heard a car, the dad said “back door!” and House said, “OK but let’s get out of here first”.
And they were grilling Chase as to whether he’d had a Brazillian and Taub said he’d had a couple himself and could attest to the pain?? So that’s his secret!
I thought it was pretty bad overall. The Chase as cheesy Australian doctor was so over the top that I cringed. And now suddenly Foreman is exerting himself and threatening to send House to jail, when last week they snuck out together to drink beer ringside at the Fight in Atlantic City?
Also, how did the girl know that the other personality was her boyfriend? I thought one personality didn’t know anything about the other one? This is based on my extensive knowledge of the subject, obtained from watching Sybil and The United States of Tara.
I thought that it had been well established that Sybil’s story was a lie and multiple personalities do not exist. Sybil confessed that she made the whole thing up and the doctor said she learned that but knew the book would make her famous.
I like the Asian doctor and don’t find her voice annoying either. The other women doctor is nice to look at but otherwise bland (normal in other words). I don’t fully buy into Chase and Foreman’s current positions but it’s just TV. Taub is a laugh riot, second only to House as the reason that I watch. Don’t miss Cuddy at all, last year’s relationship storyline was enough to make me wish for an end so badly that I don’t care that she left.
I just wish that the drama could be presented with less drama. Must we have multiple personalities, secret child molestations, illicit affairs and undisclosed adoptions? Can’t people just be sick with hard to diagnose conditions? There’s too much extra soap opera tied to these stories.
Multiple personalities do exist, but they’re extremely rare. And when they do exist, one personality may know about another, while the other has no knowledge of the first.
I thought this episode was brilliant. A dead patient! What could be better? I’m surprised the writers didn’t think of it before now. “Death is not a symptom; it’s a consequence. Only symptoms are relevant.” Awesome way to distill (and smack us over the head with) the reason that House is different than other doctors: He’s not trying to save lives. He doesn’t give a SHIT about saving lives. He’s just trying to solve puzzles. They are his personal meat-based Sudokus. Sherlock himself would be proud.
“You didn’t hear a word I said, did you?”
“Sure I did: Blah blah blah blah blah deaf ear blah blah blah blah.”
I would like to know what happened to House’s wife. I know it was just a marriage of convenience, but still.
I came here to specifically ask about this and hypnosis.
I seem to recall (read: Take with a lump of salt, my memory is bad) that both multiple personalities and hypnosis were essentially pseudoscience.
So do they cancel out? If you suffer from the delusion that you’re a vampire, can I keep you at bay by holding a crucifix in one hand and waving garlic around with the other? If you truly believe you’re possessed by a demon, can I stifle a smirk while “exorcising” it by reciting prayers you think I believe while splashing you with what I claim is holy water?
Yes!
No!
DID is a real diagnosis (that’s disassociative identity disorder, in case anyone is wondering) that is very rarely made. There are still a few folks that claim its made up, similar to how there are a few folks who think that fibromyalgia is made up. Generally speaking, both are mainstream recognized diagnoses with some people being not convinced.
I actually have a friend(ish) with a DID diagnosis and she is very profoundly sick. It’s very sad, actually. She’s a nice lady.
