House 4/16: rapidly aging girl ?

This is an episode you watch for the interplay between House and Wilson, not for the medical mystery…

You slept with her?
… yes…
Really?
… no …

But they didn’t learn it from her mouth, or if they did it was off-screen. The promo gave us the impression we were going to see a dramatic confession in a close-up shot, when all she really said in that moment was “I want some juice.”

Yes, the promo was deliberately misleading. Also the promos ruin the show’s attempt to mis-direct you in the opening scene. In this episode they tried to make you think that the little boy was going to be the patient, but of course we weren’t even worried about him because the promos had clearly shown the little girl.

I guess it’s because she lost her mother, but I don’t see a typical six-year-old being ashamed of starting to menstruate, etc. I wouldn’t think she’d know enough to be embarassed. I don’t have daughters, but my son is six and I don’t think he’d hesitate to show me anything unusual going on on any part of his body. He also bounces around the house naked before and after his bath. Maybe girls are different, and maybe there’s a lot more modesty when you have a brother and sister in the house.

Something I don’t understand is why both kids were entering early puberty because they were absorbing testosterone from their dad. Wouldn’t that have affected only the boy that way? Wouldn’t the girl have started growing facial or other body hair, or suffer other masculinizing effects?

Does testosterone trigger female puberty as well?

I avoid all promos as much as possible. Sometimes that’s tricky when the promo is running just as I tune in to watch the show. But anybody who has watched a handful of “House” episodes knows that the person who you think is going to be the patient isn’t. And if you’re like me (and I hope you’re not) you also knew that House sent Wilson the flowers before he admitted it and you knew that Wilson knew that during their conversation at the end. Seeing these things coming makes them a little less fun for me and is a sign that the writers are beginning to struggle to surprise long-time viewers.

As **Gr8Kat **pointed out above, the doctor at Polite Dissent thought the medicine was bogus: "I cannot understand why testosterone, a hormone that leads to male sexual characteristics (e.g. the teacher’s hairy lips) would cause early menstruation. If anything, high levels of exogenous sex hormones would shut down Lucy’s pituitary/ovary axis by feedback inhibition. "

I knew that House sent the flowers, and I knew that Wilson had figured it out at the end, and I think that knowing made those scenes more enjoyable, not less.

Sorta. Last episode, Chase said he wanted more, and Cameron said she didn’t, so since he ruined it, she broke it off.

Best episode of the year, IMO. Lots of good interplay between characters, especially House and Wilson, but also among the underlings.

I’m a little miffed with myself because at 8:45 CDT the diagnosis stood at cancer, and I thought, well, it’s two minutes early, but that must be it. Then, at 8:47 (right on schedule), they came up with the final diagnosis. :smack:

Best of the season to me too!

I love the way the word “really” ws used. My TV boyfriend is so in love.

And why didn’t she have underarm hair? Unless she was better at shaving her pits than her pubes.

They are making House just a little too concerned with Cuddy. No romantic tension, just keep it funny people.

I agree about the promos…I muted the one for next week because I just want to see it new and unmanipulated.

I agree that the promos are idiotic. But the theory is that people don’t want to be surprised, so by showing a clever plot twist, they’ll come in to see it happen. I don’t buy it, but I don’t make promos.

But the first scene wasn’t about misdirection. It was a clue, and I said to my wife during the opening credits, “The boy is going to be the key to the solution.”

Good episode overall, though. I thought it was nice that House thought of the testosterone connection while watching pro wrestling.

It always puzzles the heck out of me that nearly every episode involves House’s minions raiding the home of the patient to test various substances and gather up potential toxins that might be related to the case. How common is it that, when you get sick, your medical team heads for your living quarters (often without permission) and rifles through your belongings?

I don’t watch the show regularly so I don’t know Cuddy’s back story, but I don’t find her the least bit interesting.

Same here – I never watch promos/commercials for shows I like. I know I’m going to watch, so why have anything spoiled?

While we’re on it, can we try and avoid overly descriptive thread titles like we had this week? My wife and I like to play the “who’s the patient” game, and that title kinda spoiled it this week.

,And, I’m going to be the only one whose eyes popped at the sight of Camerons butt in those tight leather pants?
Heh, I’d have done what the kid did. How could he resist grabbing her?

but that’s just the dirty old man in me.

You DID sleep with her!

…yes, yes I did…
Really?
…NO!..
HAHAHAHA!

Not a PotW, but there was the homeless cancer patient that made Cameron sit with him while he died horribly and painfully (huh- the jokes just write themselves on that, don’t they?).

This was my first time watching, and granted, IANAD, but is the show always this far fetched?

At least that Scrubs parody makes a little sense now. Because as a stand alone episode (having not experienced House) it just seemed stupid.

Yup. Sometimes even farther fetched. Bizarre and barely possible diagnoses are pretty much the norm on House.

Scrubs did a House parody? Oh, I would have loved to have seen that!
