Dio, you’re letting your social political views get in the way too much. No-one from the show is running for office.
Relax, enjoy.
Just missed the edit time. I tried to change it to the following:
Of course he would have. He is fazed by a lot of things. In fact he is fazed by everything. He is by far the most sensitive person on the show. And then he pops a bunch of pills. The show is all about House and the walls he puts up to insulate him from the pain inside and the pain of life. Or maybe its a different House I have been watching?
I have to agree with Dio, but in the opposite way. Worst episode ever. Pure pro-abortion evangelism. Cuddy running around like a mad woman, the long lost sister of Groucho, blathering about babies in the manner of a Stepford wife. I was surprised she wasn’t directed to run into walls and drop a foreign object into the body while she operated. And House, ever the logical thinker, screaming “tumor!” at the mother just so he could hurry off to go vacation with the fire ants. Meanwhile, the underlying current of it all was two helpless libidos doing the wacky in hospital closets, fixated on their right to breed and purge like some sort of sexual bulimia. What a bunch of rot.
I loved this weeks show. As others have said, the patient was a take off of the very famous (in some circles) Annie Liebowitz. I don’t see it as political, the women made a choice and Cutty was trying to accomodate her. I thought the abortion part was handled fairly matter-of-factly.
Incidentally, the “fetus grabbing the surgeon’s hand” thing is urban legend. It doesn’t actually happen. It’s based on a photograph of an anesthetized fetus whose arm flopped out during a surgery. Here’s the Snopes piece. The photographer lied about what happened.
Plain and simple, it felt like an episode of Grey’s Anatomy. That’s as big of an indictment as I can fathom.
Cherry picking your reference? You call it a fetus, but the surgeon called it a baby. Three times. “The baby did not reach out,” Bruner says. “The baby was anesthetized. The baby was not aware of what was going on.”
You are many posts too late. That link was provided upthread.
It was a fetus. Doctors say “baby” all the time as a courtesy to pregnant patients. So what?
Thats really what I want to see, another GD rehash of abortion. But this time in CS.
Oh, I don’t take either side of that issue. I thought we were just talking about the show’s angle on it. It seemed decidedly pro-abortion to me.
Now, Dio, c’mon. You have no way of knowing whether the reporter was a pregnant patient.
Have to agree. Everyone called it a fetus, no one tried to save it, they decided to place the safety of the mother over the fetus, and the fetus was aborted in the end.
Wow we really did see a different show. I do think it was a lot more balanced than some would like to think but there was no abortion. Did she steal that baby she was holding at the end?
They showed her with the baby in the end. And at least two (maybe more) people called it a baby. Are we talking about House from last night? I thought it was decidedly balanced with regard to abortion. The mother didn’t want to abort even to save her own life, and House and his crew wanted to save her life the only way they thought they could. Cuddy completely took the mother’s side and advocated for her, including threatening to shock House if he tried to cut the umbilical. Did I miss something? I know I left the room at least once.
I enjoyed the episode. It was a bit disturbing to see Cuddy so unhinged, but I guess we all have our issues. And, although the case came out OK, House was careful to point out that the positive outcome was lucky, lucky, LUCKY. That’s more than you usually get on newshows about ‘medical miracles’ such as multiple births or mothers who opt to delay necessary medical treatment so their babies (fetuses, whatever) can have a chance to become viable.
And I liked this too – especially that everyone is all worried about Cameron getting hurt, when it’s extremely clear that it’s Chase at most risk of getting his heart stomped flat.
I hated this episode. It was one long pro-life polemic, and was as stupid as it was manipulative. Anyone in their right mind would have yanked that fetus long before it had a chance to kill the mother. At least they may have bulletproofed it from being grabbed by the Dobson crowd (unwed mother with gay sperm donor is not high on their list of defensible plotlines), but still, it was an offputting display.
I completely disagree. The mother made a choice and the doctors did their job. How does that not fit with the mantra of a womans right to choose?
Wow. This must be the most polarizing issue known to man. How can people come away with such completely opposite takes on the same show?
If the choice you make happens to coincide with the one that is advocated by those who would deny a woman’s right to choose, I don’t think there’s much mileage gained.
