House for sale, check out the pictures

Not sure if this was a hack? Or something else? Worst pictures ever.
804 Pamlico Dr, Cary, NC 27511 | Zillow?

From the link.

It’s a foreclosure sale. It’s clearly described as having flood issues, and part of an apparently ongoing dispute with relevant authorities over flood remediation issues. The pictures appear to give accurate information about the condition of the property.

The home’s status is “Pre-foreclosure / auction”. I’m guessing maybe the owner is trying to make sure no one will bid on it at the foreclosure auction.

It’s an auction property…might be able to pick up a good deal.

I would buy it if it comes with a kayak or canoe. A guy near there sued the town over flooding. It was headed to the US supreme court but he had cancer and dropped the suit. He died shortly later.

The listing says the town “has prohibited owner from protecting the property due to the possibility of forcing additional water downstream on other properties.” But what about raising the house above the flood level? Surely that wouldn’t cause problems downstream?

Someone is a little salty

I don’t know the area, but if the house was (not long ago) valued at $2mil (just saying), the current price of $328K might be a bargain, especially if you can fix the flooding. You can sell anything if the price is right.

Indoor pool!

Where the hell are you getting that? It’s 2,200 sq ft. $2MM would value it at over $900/sq ft. That’s getting close to Manhattan, NY prices, not Cary, NC.

the price listed would be for that house in good condition. Around here houses often sell in 1 or 2 days . Maybe a week at most. Demand is above supply.

A house in our neighborhood was bought by the city because of flooding issues. There’s a small creek behind its backyard property line that routinely floods the house. They bought the owner out instead of having to continually remediate. They’re going to demolish it and put in a greenspace by the end of the year.

I don’t know anything about prices in NC, which is why I proposed a theoretical, illustrative price, not an absolute one.

Just keep in mind that Zillow is notorious among the real estate industry for providing wild and unrealistic property values.

“Waterfront property with indoor pool. Fully furnished. Interesting trades considered.”

Not that unrealistic. $2 million is more than homes in the Bay Area of comparable size. The Zillow price is probably reasonable if the house weren’t full of water.
I wonder if the comments are against the city, and would try to drive down property values nearby which would hurt the city’s tax revenues and pressure them to do something about the flooding. I don’t blame him for not paying any more for a ruined house.

But it’s above ground.

I would love to spend some time and research this. I’d want a chain of title, a plat map where this lot was first established, and I’d like to see any documents granting the city the authority to deny the prevention of flooding on this property.

THEN I’d go after the mortgage companieswho accepted loans on flood plain properties!

There are just too many screwups here.

Same here! It’s a problem all over. According to our city engineer no one thought about topography when building (around here at least) up until maybe the late 90s. Add that bad planning to typical erosion and climate change (it only ever seems to rain in deluges these days) and flooding is a huge problem everywhere, not just on the shores.

Unless you’re building in the shape of an unfolded tesseract, I don’t think topography comes into it.
