I mean, we’re the biggest city in Texas. There has to be a good number of Dopers here. I’ve bumped into Clothahump (on the boards, not IRL), and a few others.
How many of us are there?
And how many would be interested in a 'fest, or even an evening get-together? It could be something as simple as beers and Scrabble (probably kidding about the Scrabble) at the Flying Saucer or something.
Any interest? I’ll start: I’m M/33/Houston, and would love to meet some fellow SDMB’ers.
There was a dopefest sometime in January this year, which I was able to attend, but it seems like the number of houston dopers has exploded over the past few months. It would be great to meet some of you guys too, along with meeting up again with the dopers from last time.

I actually have one set up.
I was the fight coordinator and an actor in an independant martial arts comedy movie shot here in Houston. Our premiere was originally scheduled for November, but the director couldn’t get the DVD guys to committ to having the DVDs ready by then, so the premiere has been pushed to January. I’ve invited all my fellow HouDopers to it. Come eat dinner, watch a movie and throw popcorn at the bad guys.
When : Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007. Arrive 6:30-6:45 pm, festivities begin around 7:00 pm.
Where: Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, West Oaks Mall, Westheimer and Highway 6.

The director has announced that the premiere date of 01/25/2007 is going to slip because of post-production problems that have been encountered. He has indicated that a new date will not be set until he is absolutely positive that it is a date that will NOT slip again. Keep watching for updates.

I have noticed a real abundance of new Houston dopers as of late. This should be nice. Paging Ringo, Delores Reborn, etc.
Question, as I just read the description a little closer. I’m not familiar with the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema or venues like this. Will Dopers actually be able to visit and chat with each other or is it a typical movie atmosphere? While the show sounds interesting, isn’t the point of a dopefest to visit?
Well, it unfortunately appears that a movie premiere isn’t in the immediate offing.
But as I posted in the linked thread, I will be visiting Houston soon (Jan 23-Feb 5) and would like to get together with anyone interested in a meeting.
Why don’t we put together an interim DopeFest before Clothahump’s movie premiere? Maybe the last weekend of January?
