Houston dopefest in January?

The NYC Megadest is January 16-19. That’s the weekend smack dab in the middle of your stay. I’ll be finalizing any plans I have for attending that tomorrow.

Okay, I’ll boldly seize command amidst the confusion and suggest Wednesday, January 14, as a date. Let’s say 6:00 pm. That British style pub on University Blvd we went to a couple of years back (or did that place close?)

It’ll be fun. We can get Ringo all liquored up and send him to New York drunk.

Heh.

OK, I think you’re thinking of the Baker Street Pub. Let me verify their continued existence.

With three days until I go, another bump.

Midweek is out for me, almost certainly, I’m sorry to say. On a weekend, however, I could work that out, probably. This weekend is out for me, though. Hmm… So is the next weekend, since daughter Bluebear will be home for her birthday. So, I guess for me to come, that would mean the weekend of Jan 23rd. Hello, Ringo, and other Houstonites.

What say you have several dopefests during that time, and I’ll try to slip over there one of those, Little Nemo?

As to the Austin dopefests, I have missed a few, but am looking forward to the next one. Hi, Sapphie!

As slow as the board is for me these days, I’ll be lucky to get off a couple of posts before Little Nemo is here.

I’m not going to New York. The 14th at Baker St. Pub, say 6:00 PM. I’ll be back, with details.

We might get another one in, as well.

Multiple meetings seem to be the tradition.

I can’t do pubs because of the smoke, and couldn’t come anyway since I don’t have a car anymore, and I’m drowned in work right now trying to get traffic to my site and make some sales. But but but…

I’m having a big birthday party in town next month though, in case anyone wants to come out and say hi. It’s Feb 21st. I haven’t decided on the location yet but it’ll be posted on my Livejournal and homepage. There will probably be a lot of people there… will be some place like Jillian’s or Dave & Busters. Invitation is open to anyone here, on my livejournal, and generally who-ever is bored that night and looking for something to do.

I’m afraid weekdays are out for me; so, y’all have fun at the Baker Street Pub. My friends tell me that’s a pretty cool place to go. In case anything get-together winds up getting planned for a weekend, I might be able to do it. No, assurances, though, since I’m in a bit of tight spot at the moment.

I can’t make it on Wednesday—howzabout we shoot for a weekend too?

OK, since I’m not going to NYC, we could try for something on the 16th or 17th, or the 11th, as well. Good chance it’ll be chilly, so outdoors is risky.

Well, I’m all in favor of sipping cocktails while sitting around a sauna nude, but I don’t know anyone with a sauna.

That would be raising the ante for the typical HouDope; although, currently nursing a broken rib, I can’t say I’d mind.

Howzabout them weekends, Dopers? And where might we accomodate the non-bacchanalian?

Considering my original suggestion of a weekday was made to accomodate Ringo’s schedule and he’s no longer going, maybe we should move the whole event to a weekend (preferable the 16th or 17th). And if people don’t want to do a pub (I’m a non-drinker myself) we could move the location to a coffee bar or restaurant. Didn’t we meet once at Joe’s Crab Shack on Richmond? Or that Mexican place - Tia Maria’s, I think.

Sounds good. Let’s make it Saturday, January 17th. Joe’s is a tough place to talk indoors, and it’s possible that it will be too cold to sit outside. So, Baker Street Pub, Tia Maria’s or something else even?

Where’s Tia Maria’s? That sounds interesting.

Tia Maria’s is very good eatin’! And I hear they have great margaritas. I vote for Mexican! In the evening? Say, around 7 or 8 pm?

Here’s a link.

OK, then, Saturday, January 17, 2004, beginning at 7:00 PM at:

Tia Maria’s
4618 Dacoma St
Houston, TX 77092-8121
(713) 680-0825

It’s a Tex-Mex restaurant, so there are no age issues for getting in. Little Nemo, are you web-capable? Can you hear me?*

*[sub]I think he’s in that part of the descent where there’s no possibility of radio contact, and we just hope the heat shields hold out.[/sub]

Well, I’m going to opt out to see Hank Williams III play Fitzgeralds, but I’ll be at whatever other Dopefest some other time.

Count me back in!
