Houston meeting in January?

Once again, I’ll be making my annual visit to Houston, Texas. I’ll be there from January 21 to February 3. Any interest in a meeting while I am down there?

Has it been a year already since I posted the OP? Where does the time go?

LOL

You know I’m up for it. But we’ll have to find another meeting place - Joe’s Crab Shack on Richmond is closed.

Damn. And I’m still annoyed by the closing of King’s Seafood Market.

I’ll defer to the expertise of locals on a suitable venue.

A bump.

I know a little Chinese restaurant on the west side of town that is really good.

There’s also Fuddrucker’s, which has awesome burgers.

Either works for me.

Any thoughts on a day?

The weekend of the 31st for me - we have tournaments the other weekends.

What I want to know is where are the rest of the Houston crowd? Ringo? Tam? Bueller?

<taps microphone> Is this thing on??

bump

I just sent messages to Dolores Reborn and Tio Gringo.

Hi! I don’t know how I missed this thread. I don’t have anything planned the weekend of the 31st. Chinese sounds good! But I can get behind a Fudd’s burger, too.

West side is perfect for me.

I haven’t seen Ringo on here for ages. This is his last post, just after Ike. And let’s don’t forget Lieu!

Well huh, dunno how this passed me by.

That weekend works for me, both saturday and sunday. Its sad to hear the Joe’s closed, but chinese sounds wonderful.

So an affirmative / bump!

So we’re looking at the Chinese place* on the 31st? Maybe around five?

*I’m assuming it has an actual name.

I’m in the Houston area, very northside.

Joes Crab Shack?

Really? Ew.
Oh, and hi. 1960/Champions area here

I’ll suggest Three Dragons, then. 1910 Wilcrest, just off Briar Forest.

And do we want to meet for lunch, dinner or somewhere in between?

I just missed you! I spent the holidays visiting family in Houston.

Houston has done an excellent job cleaning up after Ike. The only things that were really noticeable were missing street signs and fewer branches on most of the trees.

We took a trip down to Galveston and took the ferry over to Bolivar as well. Galveston is so-so; about 1 in 10 businesses has reopened on the Strand. Gaido’s was up and running on the seawall, and we ate there for lunch. The house I lived in some 35 years ago (near UTMB) is still standing, but the interior has been gutted.

Bolivar has been all but wiped off the map. There is very little left but debris. Probably 1 house out of 100 is still standing. :frowning:

Anyway, if you’re going to make the trek to Houston, you’ve got to go out for Mexican! I recommend Cafe Adobe on Westheimer. It’s my favorite restaurant on the planet.

I’ve always liked Galveston (and Gaido’s) even though I haven’t been down there in a few years. I’ve been thinking I should take a trip down there - but I doubt this is the year for it. I’ll let them recover a bit more and maybe do it next year.

I like Mexican food but surprisingly I can get really good Mexican food here where I live. My area has a large Mexican community and our taquerias are as good as most of the ones you’ll find in Houston. When I’m down there, I prefer to stick with BBQ and seafood - we don’t equal that up here.

Aaarrrrgghhhhh!

SWMBO just reminded me that we are going to be out of town on the weekend of the 31st. I had completely forgotten. :frowning:

We’ll have to take a rain check until next year. Y’all take pictures and post them somewhere, okay?
