How About Another Round Of YouTube Channel Recommendations?

Last night I discovered a new channel and have already binged the heck out of it. It’s called A Chick Called Albert. A man likes to hatch out various birds - domestic and wild - using his incubator and considerable nurturing skills. He raises up sickly hatchlings and if they’re domestic, keeps them as pets. If they’re wild, he sets them free.

He also rescues abandoned wild fledglings and if he can’t reintroduce them to their nest, keeps them in the incubator and feeds them to maturity and releases them.

It’s very satisfying to watch, as well as interesting to see the tricks he uses to get fledglings to feed.

Oh, wow. Thank you. I’ve been looking for guitar instruction because I’m really rusty at it now and I haven’t had luck on one of those paid sites like Lynda.

Thanks for the recommendation. Mrs. Mahaloth and I watched his review of Saving Christmas and we think we’ll check out more of his movie reviews.

I have to admit, I really don’t watch Vet Ranch at all. I’ve seen maybe one or two of them.
Another channel I don’t think I’ve seen mentioned yet is Hydraulic Press Channel (as well as Beyond The Press). Make sure you’re watching the actual channel and not one of the knock offs. If you don’t hear Lauri’s Finnish accent and Anni yelping in the background each time, you’re watching the wrong one.

Watch your volume, the videos start out with somewhat loud music.

Lindybeige. A weapons and history channel. He discusses the creation and use of weapons throughout history, as well as discussing battles.

If you like Numberphile (I do, too), you might also enjoy Mathologer. (Actually the first Mathologer video I watched was this one criticizing Numberphile’s 1 + 2 + 3 + … = -1/12 video. Of course the series really diverges to infinity, and in general 1[sup]-z[/sup] + 2[sup]-z[/sup] + 3[sup]-z[/sup] + … only converges for z > 1, but the analytic continuation of this series is the Riemann zeta function, which has a value of -1/12 at z = -1. That’s what Numberphile was really getting at, but Mathologer spelled it out really well.)

As a Star Trek fan, I like Steve Strives’ Trek, Actually series. He convinced me that Jellico (from the “There are four lights!” episode of TNG) was actually a good captain, and certainly better than Janeway.

Humor is of course subjective, but I think Jenny Nicholson is one of the funniest people on youtube. Try A Critical Brony Analysis of My Little Pony: The Movie or Rating. Every. Porg.. I like to watch her videos at 2x speed, which gives them a delightfully manic quality.

If you ever wanted to learn sign language (ASL), Bill Vicars has multiple semesters worth of his college ASL class posted online (with links to more material on his website).

If you like Lindybeige you may also like Scholagladiatoria, who covers the practical aspects of fighting with swords. That’s real swords made of steel, not foam or rattan.

I’ve never seen a thread like this one, so my suggestions may have appeared before:

Acapellascience. A musical channel with a smart Canadian fella parodying popular songs into science-themed videos, on which he does all of the voices and beatboxing (usually). The science is usually over my head, but when I CAN follow it, it seems sound. And even when I can’t, I think I come away at least marginally better-informed.

Drunk Disney. Three friends and a special guest watch Disney movies while getting drunk, offering commentary and riffs (not MST-caliber, but funny), and explain what they got out of the movie.

Just an aside: her interview on The Financial Diet channel was hilarious. For example, the worst money she ever spent? $500 on a Princess Leia costume to fuck a guy.

A recent discovery of mine is “Movies Explained For” with fun summaries of various movies, such as Jurassic Park Explained for Realists.

My favorite gaming streamer is Cohh Carnage. He plays lots of different types of games at a very high level but he stays relaxed and welcoming the whole time. He tries to keep his community focused on good vibes and takes Sundays for a community showcase, where everyone can show off their projects or just talk about what’s going on.

Here’s his playlist on YouTube -

And here’s, for example, his Cuphead playthrough - a game I couldn’t get passed the first level.

Cohh streams on Twitch most days, morning and afternoon.

Holy Shit that Thermomix episode had me in tears

I’d like to add the Royal Institution channel, mostly (atm) to share the works of Andrew Szydlo:

But there is a lot of good content on the channel. It’s like TED but less fake and more practical.
