Fools all! Did you paid no attention to the media? The whole purpose of the invasion was for oil! Why, once the evil camel-hugging parasites were put under control, the big honking spigot was turned full on, which is why we have such an abundance that the futures market is ~ $3/bbl.
Stay tuned. After station identification Peter Jennings will analyze the winged monkeys flying from my butt.
Just to get serious for a moment, wouldn’t you say all religions are guilty of atrocities? Granted, Sept 11, 2001 was a ghastly surprise to everyone - but then again who could have guessed that Christianity would resort to something as brutal as the Spanish Inquisition? Who could have expected that?

Geez, I am sorry you took my posting seriously (even though I did say it was a serious posting didn’t I ???) Well, I was just setting up the stage for someone to come back with a Monty Python reply. And as Sample_The_Dog said, not everyone is conversant in the Monty Python genre.
EddyTeddyFreddy
I typed all of that and looked for a cite and all the while, you came back with that reply?
Geez.
Sure it has been done to death but I felt this thread was going awry and I thought I’d add to the frivolity.
mmm? Wolf? Eddy gets it. Re-read her reply. She simply expressed boredon with an overdone routine, (that appears on the SDMB at least weekly), by posting a factual reply when a “let’s all repeat the 30-year-old joke” reply was expected.

I was replying to Eddy’s posting #68 while, unbeknownst to me, Eddy had posted a later reply which I only saw after I had pressed the submit button and that is why you see another posting from me directly after my first one. I’d better stop this explanation before this thread goes (dare I say it?) awry.
To continue along these lines, in 250,000 B.C. the Tribe Across the Hills, followers of the Moon Spirit, killed some members of the Tribe in the Swamp, followers of the Sun Spirit, using sticks on their unarmed adversaries. In light of this, I don’t see how we can possibly criticize Muslims or anyone, or even engage in critical thought.
The BBC is running a fascinating Documentary charting the rise of militant Arab radicalism (tellingly parallelling the rise of US neoconservatism) called url=http://www.guardian.co.uk/terrorism/story/0,12780,1327904,00.html]The Power of Nightmares, which I would urge anyone to try and catch on *eg.*BBC America.
Suffice it to say, drawing a Venn diagram with a set of Muslims unioned with a set of suicide bombers is not very helpful (especially since so may Hindus have carried out suicide bombings in Tamil Nadu, Jammu and and Kasmir). Suicide bombing arises when a group, rightly or wrongly, considers itself so oppressed that martyrdom becomes praiseworthy. It is a method of the desperate, and requires the “praise” of the wider community to produce the poor, stupid, exploited volunteers themselves.
I would like to register a protest against the excessive use of Monty Python references in this thread. I can tell you that they are a group of 5 humans and 1 ex-human, with no bloody pythons at all.
Fresh from too many espressos, I have to admit that I have never met a human being who was a subscribing Doper that I did not like, or was attracted to. (When I was still pursuing my undersgraduate degree, I had a huge crush on a girl named tequila_mockingbird [sp?] in Cafe Society!) That being said, there seems to be no discussion of what is going on in SDMB that is affecting the overuse of Monty Python quotes on these boards. Instead, we (posters) seem to be attacking each other over who is responsible for abstract humor. Might we examine Cecil a bit, to see what makes some of his adherents quote British absurdist comedians?
