(Sigh of relief) You have that same feeling too? Glad that I’m not the only one. Maybe we could start a relief thread for self-suspecting thread killers (Thread Killers Anonymous)? Oh, that probably wouldn’t live long I guess.
OTHO, what with all the high traffic around here, maybe we need a few more thread-killers.
Well, you can have the chocolate chip ones, then, Yumblie… Of course, you’re less of a newbie than me, so rightly, you should make welcome cookies for me, but we’ll just ignore that.
Re: Killing threads - I think everybody does it occasionally. Lotsa threads just die on their own, and it’s not really anybody’s fault. I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ve certainly murdered my fair share…
Heck, I’ve been here practically forever (I’m userid # 66) but with a posting rate of less than 3 posts per day there are probably many people on the board who would not recognize my user name, let alone have much of an opinion about me as a board contributor. Don’t worry – it may be a crowded party, but you’ll make friends (and/or enemies ) and develop a reputation among those who tend to post to the same subjects, if not necessarily a board-wide one.
FWIW – many of the high-profile posters who establish themselves as Flamboyantly Noticeable Board Members on short notice burn brightly for a year or two and then flame out in rancorous meltdowns. You’ll last longer and have more fun if you post honestly and from your own interests and don’t get overly invested in what other people think of you here.
I kinda jumped right in after joinging the boards and began posting in GQ right away. It wasn’t until recently that I moved beyond there but for the first month or so it seemed every time I chimed in with my $.02 on a thread my name would forever linger as the last poster. It does happen, and I agree, when you’re a newbie its a pretty horrible feeling.
One last thing before I go…** MissBungle** Those who like to play shrink with others and condemn them for insecurities often do it as the result of their own larger insecurities. In saying that I know it makes me seem a hypocrite but hey, I’m insecure and dammit I’m proud! Kindly crawl back into your hole.
I’ve noticed you, hyperjes – both because of your chewing-out of BlueJohn and because I’ve got a friend named Jessica who lives in Durham, and I’ve idly wondered if that was you.
But unless I kissed you at a Hallowe’en party in Asheville, it’s probably a different Jessica
Silentgoldfish I tend to notice the Aussie posters from their vernacular more than anyone else (except the mods).
Sorry Aslan2 I have noticed your posts but to me their not memorable (like most of mine). But hey, I don’t think you’ve narked me off yet, so don’t feel like you’re doing the wrong thing either (like my opinion really counts).
Well, I’d join that thread/club. Maybe it’s just me (and maybe I should add this to the “Is it just me, or…” thread), but it sometimes seems like I can almost hear the long term members sniffing disdainfully when they come across one of my posts and saying “Ugh! A newbie. I’m not responding to that!” And, it’s not like I’m some punk kid with his first Mac. I’ve been posting on boards since before there was a GUI interface. I’m just new, here.
Anyway, Aslan, I’ve seen some of your posts, and you’re doing fine.
