How are you preparing for the coming fascist authoritarian regime?

what about options like
china, russia and even Mexico takes the opportunity to invade during the chaos
western Europe under a UN flag occupies the us under a peacekeeping type of mission and its declared a un territory

That sounds like a paranoid right wing conspiracy nightmare from the 1990s. We’ve got a nuclear arsenal, and I’m betting a good percentage of it actually works. Even if we didn’t use our nukes, put yourself in Colonel Pierre’s position. Do you really want to try invading a country of 330,000,000 and becoming the common enemy to a violent brutish people with a xenophobic streak who seem perfectly comfortable killing one another?

Also because they would be easy to single out as dumb rubes who can’t find their way around the subway, pronounce “Houston Street” like the city in Texas instead of “HOW-ston”, and gravitate towards Times Square chain restaurants.

This all sounds like an interesting thought experiment at best and paranoid left-wing conspiracy theory at worst. I would even go so far as to suggest America has already been living in a “fascist authoritarian regime” or “techno-corporate capitalist plutocracy” or whatever you want to call it for decades. All the bickering over Republicans or Democrats in charge is all bullshit designed to keep the proles busy fighting each because America is run by cabal of a thousand or so billionaires and their Inner Circle of bankers, lawyers, politicians and other assorted hired cronies.

Then again, what do I know.

It really isn’t.
We do have periodic tempests, but our teapots can handle it.

If you live by growing and selling food, you still need someone to buy it.

If the Republicans win in 2024, the floodgates will be open.
Or wait - I know!
A wall! :white_check_mark:
:slightly_smiling_face:

A well worn meme … and with the advantage that being the polite culture they are, they’d be willing to pay for it themselves.

This is mostly true, but appointments/confirmations to the federal judiciary are the glaring exception. Although in this regard it matters enormously whether Republicans or Democrats are in charge, Democrats and progressives in particular seem all but oblivious to that reality. It’s as if the machinations of a few legal specialists are too abstract for us to care about.

1/19/21.
Monty Hall: Jay, tell the conservatives what they’ve won.

Jay: You get a 6-9 right wing wing SCOTUS majority! Your three new justices are young and raring to go, throw out precedents right and left, I mean just left, for decades to come, and they’ve all been vetted and aporoved by the Federalist Society.

[Cue Federalist Society seal of approval appearing on the studio monitors]

Monty Hall: Tell the liberals what they’ve won, Jay.
Jay: You get…One liberal justice replacing another liberal justice.

Trombone: WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP WHOMP.

Naw - Charles Koch, the Mercer family, and some of their buds can put the money up for this. Keep in the purity of American patriots. :upside_down_face:
This does worry me, a little. Impossible to say exactly how it’ll all play itself out, but the aforementioned issues are concerning (for just about everywhere, really, with multiple domino effects).

I’m preparing by reading threads here about how the Dems need to put up ‘sexier’ candidates.
Because, somehow, not Hitler a Republican just isn’t enough.
Save me a nice window seat place on the train to the death camp if you can.

“We reject the certified results of the 2020 Presidential election, and we hold that acting President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. was not legitimately elected by the people of the United States,” the resolution says…" It also described homosexuality as an “abnormal lifestyle choice” and that the party “oppose all efforts to validate transgender identity.”

A whole party has gone insane.

Pretty much a foregone conclusion that, if he “decides to do it”, he can have it. The horrible thing is, I believe that’s true unless more forceful tactics are used to oppose him and his supporters than have been used up to now.

Objection! Assumes facts not in evidence.

You forgot “heavily armed violent brutish people with a xenophobic streak who seem perfectly comfortable killing one another”. We have more guns than people, and that’s saying something. Anyone attempting to hold a part of the US against the will of the inhabitants is going to have one hell of an insurgency to deal with.

Would that actually be worse? At least the Europeans will bring punctuation.

Dan

And healthcare!

I’m preparing for my fellow citizens to become more violent over the course of the next few years. I haven’t been to the range in years, but I’m going to start going back soon to make sure everything is in working order.

Laurence Tribe et al have an op-ed in the L. A. Times with a new take on an old saying:

If Trump is convicted, or dies of being old and fat, DeSantis is there to take his place.

2020 was just a trial run by a narcissistic idiot. But the rest of them, who aren’t nearly as dumb, are honing their tactics for '24.
