Zombie Hitler wouldn’t worry me at all, because whatever the fuck form of moral degeneracy happened to Republicans hasn’t happened to Democrats; Democrats would have enough strength of character to immediately impeach that son-of-a-bitch (and also probably whatever VP thought it would be a good idea to join the Hitler ticket), and we’d be left with President Pelosi, which would make me laugh myself to sleep for the next 4 years.
Zombie Hitler would only be dangerous if he ran on the Republican ticket. Those pathetic spineless Republicans would be so afraid of having their base withdraw support that they’d refuse to impeach, and we’d be right back where we are now.

I like the way you look at this. The question really exposes the difference between the parties when it comes to acting as a true check on the other branches, not to mention a true loyal opposition. Is there a word for that? Ethics?
Nonetheless, I would caution you that Zombie Hitler could cause tremendous damage, his -D notwithstanding. Note that Zombie Hitler actually has a very strong resume compared to Trump. Military service, extensive government experience building his own movement rather than hijacking an existing one, writing his own manifesto while granting that is sucks, art world experience, overcoming hardship in the form of not just enduring the Depression in post war Germany, where it was the worst, but leading his nation out of it to unemployment levels Trump has not achieved even starting from much more favorable conditions, and all of this before mentioning historic byword level murderous retribution against his enemies. Trump has fired a few people, and shit-talked dozens more, scandalizing the news outlets and message boards. Big whoop.
I am trying to say that Zombie Hitler is immeasurably more dangerous than Trump by virtue of his vastly superior abilities. Even under threat of rapid impeachment, you don’t want to be the guy who helped elect Zombie Hitler.
Since I was the one who introduced Hitler into the thread, let it be noted that I referred to the “rotting corpse” of Hitler. No zombie he. Elect it and then the VP becomes President.

Yeah - that’s a great reason to not vote for the opponent of the guy who keeps retweeting neo-nazis, and said there were good people on “both sides” of a white supremacist rally where one of the rallying cries was “jews will not replace us”. NONE. There is NO scandal that would cause me to not vote for the Democrat in 2020. Even though I’m almost certain to be in be in solid blue Illinois or even more blue DC in November 2020, I will never not vote, chase a 3rd party unicorn, or do a senseless write in.
It’s fine for me, as a nobody, to argue politics on Twitter. It’s not ok for the president to shake up the financial markets because he’s negotiating trade policy on Twitter!

Let me re-phrase. What makes someone say 15 months ago that he was not acceptable as a Senator and now say that he would be acceptable as president?

I can’t conceive of anything that has any chance of happening changing my vote. The only thing Trump lacks that makes him not so dangerous is competency in his evil.
You don’t vote for people. You vote against their opponents. Even if I vote in a Democrat who has to be immediately impeached, I still got Trump out of office. And anything worse than Trump would be immediately impeachable.
It’s interesting because we always have the hypothetical threads on here every 4 years about what if a candidate dies or needs to be replaced after they’re nominated. If something so bad came out about the Democratic nominee after the convention, then they could be replaced. But, it’s pretty hard to get through primary season without anything major coming out. The Bush DUI and the Trump Access Hollywood tape are probably the worst and they both won and I doubt they changed many votes.
Velocity, please. “…some major scandal…”? Perhaps one put a dog in a pet carrier, strapped it on the roof of his car and sped down the highway at 80mph? Perhaps someone stole the prep notes for a debate? Perhaps one had an undocumented employee?
In your scenario, is Bernie Sanders this “3rd party” in our grand two-party system? After all, he’s running and he’s a known quantity.

Surely in times like these begging for the people part of “We the people” to come up with something other than the same ol’ same ol’ there are deeper considerations than this…Why in the world are we looking at people like Trump, Kamala, Biden, Rubio, Beto, Cruz, Warren as sufficient to lead our country? Are these the ONLY people in this land, or is this “Two-Party system” that cripples that 3rd requiring SCRUTINY?
