I have two more or less full one liter bottles of Grey Goose Vodka and Bacardi Limon Citrus Rum and a 1.75 liter bottle of 4 year old Jim Beam Whiskey. I will skip the mundane story of how I came to own expensive spirts I really don’t care for (I’m a gin and tonic man), and concentrate on how to get rid of these spirits. I don’t have a bar or know how to bartend or mix drinks so offering them to someone socially if I was entertaining would consist of handing them the bottles, some ice, a glass and telling them to make themselves at home which is hardly good manners for proper host.
Before I pour these down the sink can anyone advise as to some recipes or creative ideas that utilize these spirts so I can make use of them. If someone is sponsoring a next Dopefest in the mid-atlantic region I might be able to ship them to you (if that’s legal).
Do NOT pour them down the sink! That’s alcohol abuse, man! Send them to me! I’ll give them a good home! I promise! (My liver might not thank you, but I thank you.)
Besides, like, maybe they could raffle off the booze to drinkers, then the proceeds could be donated to an actual money fund. And I’m sure not everyone who works for MADD is totally sober 24/7. That would smack of discrimina-ma-tion.
Does eBay allow sale of alcohol? That’s usually the most profitable way to get rid of things you don’t need. If it’s not worth shipping you could set the price low and specify that buyer must pick up.
I don’t think you can sell booze on ebay. I could be wrong, but I’m probably not.
You can add vodka to spaghetti sauce. Or dilute it 50% with water, add fragrance oils of your choice and “steep” for a couple of weeks for custom perfume.
Or, you could donate the booze to a local fundraiser - lots of community and even church organizations have raffles. Or, bring it to parties as hostess gifts (regifting is only bad if you give it back to the person who gave it to you.)
I poured a load of booze ( bacardi, covasier & some other odd stuff) into my compost pile. We just don’t drink like we use to and this stuff was years old and already opened.
The yeast in it ( at least the wine) will help it break down faster.
If not, my field mice had one hell of a party.
Personally, I suggest taking yourself to the friendly neighborhood punk club, and be the God-of-the-night for all the poor sober punkers who are too poor to buy alcohol, like myself.
Whiskey: Make some bread pudding with whiskey sauce! Yumm!!! How about whiskey balls? Lots’ of good whiskey desserts can be made.
Vodka: Someone already mentioned pasta sauce. Here’s how to make it. Saute diced onions and garlic until soft. Add 2 cups chopped plum tomatoes (either fresh or Italian canned). Add vodka (about 1/2 cup). Simmer until everything is soft and reduced. Add 1/2 cup of cream. Simmer until all is combined. Add some freshly chopped basil.
Alternate pasta/vodka recipe: Saute diced onions, garlic, and ham. Add just a couple of diced plum tomatos, and vodka. Simmer 2 - 3 minutes. Add fresh or frozen green peas and cream. This is GREAT on tortellini with some fresh parmesan and basil!
Other use for vodka: Make Limonata! Slice a whole mess of lemons into a large jug. Add sugar, mint if you want, and cover with vodka. Let steep. I’m sure you can find a recipe online with the correct proportions. It’s an amazing liqueur. I’m also a gin and tonic person, but I love this stuff.
