How big of a misstep by MS was Kinect for Xbone?

I’m not sure their laid off employees have big piles of money. :frowning:

I think we can now conclude that the Kinect was a major misstep for XB One.

As someone who’s been hating on the Kinect since 2010, I hope we’ve finally seen the end of gesture-based interfaces.

By the way, VR isn’t the wave of the future either.

Your Sony overlords let you say that about Project Morpheus?

I’m actually working on some Morpheus titles. It’s an interesting way to play a limited category of games. However, it’s not going to replace the normal display.

The crazy thing was not that Microsoft *offered *the Kinect. It was an interesting experiment. The crazy thing was that they *required *it, when its utility as an input device was so limited.

Had Sony included their camera, there would have been price parity, more or less. As well, since the units were already built, it did not make sense at the time to strip one part off.

Now MS has real world data, and they are reacting, as the kokatu article shows. In four months, since launch, they seem to be showing a surprising amount of agility.

My own use of the kinnect so far, seems to be for the Deadrising 3 game. Ryse did not seem to make that much use of it, beyond a few phrases.

Still, I think MS went with the Kinnect system, so we would beta the technology for third party developers. MS was pretty surprised by what the system was being used for and who was using it, with the mark one system.

Declan

It bums me out.

The only darn reason I got an xbone were the kinect tie in features with it’s media center capabilities. Now that they are taking Kinect off the SKU, you can bet any improvements to those features will be on the backburner.

Playing games on an Xbone is not something I’m interested in so now I’m regretting not picking up a kindle fire TV instead of this darn thing.
