Yet while you hide in your fortified bunker, you have zero qualms about Russian interference? The demise of the rule of law and fealty to the Constitution? Global warming destroying our civilization? Deaths of hundreds of thousands thanks to a totally mismanaged health crisis? Destruction of our democratic norms? Etc. etc. etc.?
Single issue voters like you make me…sad. [not in the Pit]
Worse? How could it possibly be worse?! [oops wrong thread]
For the same reason that they have to take their gun with them to go shopping at Wal-Mart. They are pathologically paranoid. They are not capable of assessing risk, not capable of rationally considering the future.
They are weak, they are scared, and they lash out at the very many things that they do not understand.
I should mention in the interest of #notallgunowners that I know plenty of gun owners who don’t buy into the fear, aren’t worried about the “knock at the door”, don’t feel the need to go everywhere armed, aren’t one-issue voters and are in fact perfectly reasonable people (or as perfectly reasonable as people ever are). The problem is that the other type are the noisy ones.
Yes, but they know that Trump is a liar, so they can trust him.
I’ll bet that most of them were for some sort of gun control 6 months ago. And I’ll bet that they are still for some sort of gun control.
This is completely unsubstantiated by anything.
the rioters are selfish and self serving and don’t care about anything but the destruction that they can cause.
Or, at least, as long as they can rationalize that he is on their side, even though he has said specifically that he is not.
Single issue voters tend to not have the capability of understanding complex things, and so have to reduce it down to its simplest, and when you reduce a complex idea to a simple idea, you invariably also make it wrong. This makes them very easy to manipulate by liars like the Republican party.
I’ll agree, and I know a number of them. They are all voting for Biden.
I went shooting with a cop friend and got to try out his AR-15 w/scope. I don’t have a ton of gun experience but I’ve not fired anything like it. So accurate it felt like a semi-auto sniper rifle.
Someone here will answer with a straight face that Trump is the least bad choice. To that person, I must always answer that you lack an adult concept of “bad” and you lack an adult’s ability to attribute current events to their correct causes.
Just curious: Would you feel that way about any Democratic candidate? I’ve heard the “going to take our guns away” cry when Bill Clinton was running, when Obama was running, when H. Clinton was running. Is there a possibility of a Democratic candidate you wouldn’t distrust re: guns, or do you believe that Democrats are inherently pro-gun-grabbing?
It’s been discussed before, but what’s the logic here? The violence happened on Trump’s watch. Armed kooks held anti-mask protests on Trump’s watch. White supremacists made armed shows of force on Trump’s watch.
Trump had 4 years and it only got worse. Why would anybody think 4 more years would make it better?
Yeah, I thought it was obvious I was listing the reasons Trump’s voters would vote for him. I said nothing about whether I believed in those reasons myself (and I’d hope a brief look at my posting history would answer that question).
For example, I said that Trump showed the world who’s boss because that’s exactly what his base thinks he’s done. None of them think he’s corrupt or stupid or doing a bad job. If they did, they’d be a lot less likely to vote for him.
If it baffles you, it’s because you’re missing the context of what he said. He was referring to people who have repeatedly demonstrated dangerous intentions - in this case, potential school shooters. In the same way that nobody would judge a police officer for taking away the firearm of someone whom he had probable cause to suspect of a violent felony, none of the pro-gun Trump voters interpreted Trump’s words as applying to all gun owners, only the ones who have - as Nicolas Cruz did - been flagged multiple times for violent and dangerous behavior.
Out of context, of course what Trump said sounds like Beto O’Rourke’s wet dream. But the context mattered.
You guys keep focusing on Trump’s ‘base’, because they are the easiest to mock. But they aren’t going to change.
Who you should be focused on are the people who already know Trump is an ass, and really want to vote for someone else, but are turned off by the unrestrained antics of the Democrat’s ‘base’ and by their apparent move of the Democrats to the far left.
I know lots of people saying, “Goddammit, DON’T make me vote for Trump!”. They know who he is, but they fear what the Democrats will do with unchecked power.
Those are what’s left of ‘swing’ voters, and you need them. Stop dissing them and scaring them. Because that’s how you’ll get four more years of Trump.
