How can I burn just part of a song onto CD?

Let’s say that of a 4:00 song I only want to burn the part between 2:04 and 2:49 onto CD. Is there a way that I can do this on I-Tunes or with any Windows software or reliable freeware?

Make a copy of the file and use Audacity to chop off the bits you don’t want. Then burn the resulting file onto CD by the usual means.

I’ve used audacity to achieve precisely what you’re asking, and at last check, it is in fact Windows Freeware!

I will reiterate the Audacity recommendation.

I used it many moons ago to capture the audio channels from my satellite TV into the computer for a long period. Then used Audacity to trim the stream of audio to get only the song itself. Satellite TV had the decency to play the songs in their entirety without a DJ commentary, and a slight pause between songs.

It also had the neat feature of allowing a fade in and out so your sound bite did not start with a blast. Still freeware.

“The Audacity Recommendation” needs to be a title for something- not scientific enough for a Big Bang Theory episode but needs to be used for something.

IMHO the also free MPtrim is far easier to use than audacity.

Easy to do in iTunes, without downloading anything else.

These directions assume Windows, adjust accordingly.

  1. Right click file, “Get Info”
  2. Click “Options” tab
  3. Set start time and stop time to the range to want, click “OK”
  4. Right click on the file, select “Create MP3 Version.” This might be m4a or something if that’s your default, not sure…

Don’t forget to set the start and stop times back for the original mp3.
