How can I check if I am going bald?

As strange as that sounds, I am serious. I am concerned that I am slowly going bald. Very slowly. I can’t see a difference day to day or week to week. I don’t see large clumps of hair in the drain after a shower. It’s like if you gain or lose weight. You really can’t notice, but then you go and step on a scale.

So how can I measure this? Inches from my earlobe to the root of my hair? Any ideas on a reliable and consistent way to track this and figure out if I need to take action?

You can measure from your eyebrows back to the hairline with a tape measure.

For the crown, you need to check hair density, but a dermotologist might be best for that.

It should be noted that virtually everyone is ‘going bald’. The question is ‘how fast’.? Very few people maintain all their hair.

While others will chime in on this point, take heed to it: Generally, if you have manintained most of your hair/hairline by 25 or 26, you will just see gradual progression that is more realted to aging. In other words, you’ve pretty much found your groove and nothing sudden will happen, as a general rule. Your looks won’t change all that much/suddenly.

If male pattern baldness has reared it’s ugly head at 20-23 or 24, then you might be in the middle of a more sudden run of hair loss.

Options are limited and those options are sooo ‘hit or miss’ as to not be helpful in a GQ forum. You’d need to explore the facts, the odds, the succes rates and the expected results and judge them according to your opinion on what is right for you (if anything).
