How can I get my band noticed?

I just want get some opinionated feedback from all the geniuses at straightdope. For right now all we need are some good lyrics and a singer, we find that the most difficult thing to do with our music.

The first thing you do is ask permission to promote something personal on the Boards. Simple as emailing a Mod or Admin. We usually run it round the Mod email list and get back to you with a yes or no.
