How can I get my iPod to play songs in order?

It seems that there is no way to play songs in a specified order on an iPod.

The playlist feature on iPods should be called a playgroup.

Albums don’t play in order, either.

I’ve been all over my iPod options, iTunes options… how do I make the damned thing play stuff in order?

When selecting a playlist or an album, it always gives me the first song first, then it just shuffles shit up.

WTF???

Did you try:
Main Menu -> Settings and make sure Shuffle has off next to it?

Not sure when I put it on shuffle, or why, but that was it. Didn’t even really realize that was a setting. All my other mp3 players just had a shuffle setting that you could turn on or off at any time… middle of a playlist, album, whatever. It wasn’t a secret setting like it is with iPods.

A side note for others, my car stereo has a USB port so I use a memory card as a hard drive. To get songs to play in a certain order I put numbers in front of the song name.
