how can I reset the DIC on an '89 Olds?

I aquired a 1989 Olsmobile 88. It’s in fantastic condition. I let the battery die and the Drivers Information Center got erased. This is a little onboard computer not mush more than a toy. It calculated milage and stuff.
The car’s operation is not crucial to this, but it kees saying GOOD AFTERNOON all day. I would also like to know my engine RPMs.
For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to reset this. I tried all buttons and the owner’s manual is no help.
Any suggestions?

Did you try calling a Oldsmobile dealer?

I hate talking on the phone so I put it to the SDMB first.

Nice car you have there. And those trip computers are really nice too. I’d suggest getting a used owner’s manual on eBay…the going rate seems to be somewhere around ten bucks.

I go junkyarding from time to time—if I see a manual for your car, I’ll grab it and then I can tell you what it says.

GM website www.gm.com has Oldmobile manuals online but you have to register with a GM vin # and I don’t have one so I don’t know how far back they go.

the manual is no help, I’m afraid the problem is not something ordinary.
