BTW, I spent seven years as a yooper. Loved it tremendously (God’s area code is 906), but once I moved someplace with honest-to-goodness mountains I could never go back.

I agree with you on the mountains. Like Athena, I also am temporarily exiled from the UP, serving a sentence of 3-13 here in West Suburban Chicago (with possible time off for good behavior). Given my druthers, I’d much rather be doing this time in Colorado, but, well, one goes where the (corporate) judge sends one, I guess. Climb a 14er for me, and reflect upon those less fortunate who live where a closed landfill is what passes for a “mountain”. Seriously. “Mt. Hoy” Illinois, the highest point in DuPage County. <Sigh>
I’m an upstate New Yorker and I definitely rely on New York City to keep my business going.
Funneefarmer & Zette: Where you guys at? I’m originally from the Adirondacks and now live in the Rochester area (about thirty miles out from the city). Didn’t recognize the name of your hometown, FF, but you probably wouldn’t know my town either.
All the Houston crowd: Is there room on the roster for a visiting team? I have relatives in Houston and fly down there for a couple of weeks every winter.

Oh, mine too! I could drive up there in a few hours. If we meet and like each other we could car pool or caravan! I don’t gamble but I love to watch folks doing it. Gambling, that is! Well, other things too, but ANYWAY… how many could go to Vegas? And when would we hold this great event?

I’m from upstate NY too! Originally(sp?) from Ithaca, now in Syracuse. I thought that the only New Yorkers here were in the city ('cept for Zette, with whom I chatted). I’m more excited than I probably should be to hear that there are others near me!

There ya’ go z, stirrin’em up (my job in Houston). My “frequent” business trips to Dallas have been a bit subdued thid year, but next year looks brighter - if ya’ll organize maybe I can get with ya’ll sometime this Spring.

I’m getting the feeling that I’m the only Michiganian (Michigander doesn’t sound right to me) that actually lives in the lower part of the state. The dozen or so Dopers in Michigan that I know of all seem to be living up North. Since I missed the Columbus shenanigans and I’m working the same weekend as the Chicago party, I think we should throw a party here.

I’m originally from Toledo, but I go to University of Cincinnati now (and depending on how I did on my last calc test, I might be moving back and going to UT). Beefy Lover was the other guy from Toledo, but I haven’t seen in him in months. (lurking maybe?)
