How Cool Is That?

Back to the OP, you think some of you guys are close? Check out the Yo! New Yorkers! Thread. And you guys think NY is a big city…

Some of us would appreciate your reflecting on the idea that New York is a state not just a city. I can show you a spot in the Syracuse Metropolitan Statistical Area that is five miles from the nearest public road (not paved, public, dirt or whatever).

Um, Coldfire, I don’t know if you knew this, but I am an American. I just live in Germany. I can speak a little German, but no Dutch. You and your trilingual self are giving me a serious inferiority complex! To be honest, I’m a little intimidated about meeting you…but the Stroopwafels are too tempting!

BTW, for those of you who don’t know, Stroopwafels are little crisp waffle cookies with a gooey caramel-like filling. Mmmm. Quite possibly the finest combination of starch, sugar and butter known to man.

Huh? Who threw me out of the church?

Tom~

For the record, it’s pronounced “You-ti-kus.” It’s biblical … check the book of Acts. On my old web site, I explianed that I took my name from the patron saint of all those who fall asleep in church.

However, I think I may be the king of missed opportunities. I live in West Warwick, RI; Big Iron used to live in Providence, RI, about a mile away from where my wife was in the hospital and not more than a block away from where No. 1 son now goes to school. We planned to meet once at a local deli. We still can’t figure out what happened, but somehow we missed each other.

And I’ve missed Andrea (Witewytch) TWICE already. We had planned on meeting once In providence when she was driving through, but couldn’t connect. And just this week, I was driving past a club not a mile from my home when I saw that Dokken had played there on Oct. 12. The I remembered that she was riving for Dokken and D’OH!! Missed again.

I can get together most Monday, Tuesday, Saturday or Sunday evenings for a Houston get-together.

A trip to San Antonio would take a bit more planning.

Anyone’s who’s interested-email me.

You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.

Eutychus,I am so interested in Rhode Island. Tell me about it please.

Tommn,oh sorry, what church do you go to?

Well, I’m Catholic, so if you go along with Adam/ARG220, you may place me outside Christianity, but I consider Catholicism to be a pretty solidly Christian group.

Tom~

Lemme get a “hell yeah” from all my Frisco homies…
bleh.
I know there are some residents of Da City around, unless we all ran away becuase we know we’re about to have an earthquake.

I finally had to stop lurking long enough to let Athena know that she is not the only Yooper here. I’m sure there are others, but we tend to be quiet, in the classic, stoic, semi-frozen Yooper way.

I notice Houston picked up a new SDMBer today, nasargent. Welcome aboard!

Have we no one in the central PA (i.e. Nittany Lion) area out there? I’ve been calling it home for the past couple of years, although home is really exit 9 off the New Jersey Turnpike. (I still go down that way every other weekend or so,and will be back permanently by June 2000.) Does that qualify me as a New Yorker or a displaced New Yorker wannabe?

so you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts. what’s so amazing about really deep thoughts? Tori Amos

Muncie, IN? Anyone? Didn’t think so.

Indiana is a hellhole, BTW. If you aren’t here now, try never to be.

San Francisco - and we are not expecting an earthquake. I am like the guy in the other thread who can feel them coming. Not today, anyway

The reason gentlemen prefer blondes is that there are not enough redheads to go around.

I’m in D.C. area - Beltsville, Md. I think the four of us should descend on Satan - I like N.C. but Raleigh may be under water by now.

Yeah, I knew that. Just testing your language skills… the invitation WAS in German BTW, not Dutch - you’ll find Dutch even harder to learn since German is very rule-based in its grammar, whereas Dutch is rule-based with 100,000 exceptions

“You and your trilingual self are giving me a serious inferiority complex! To be honest, I’m a little intimidated about meeting you…but the Stroopwafels are too tempting!”

Try quatrolingual or something  I also speak French. But don’t feel intimidated ! It’s only natural that Dutch people speak a lot of languages because the rest of the world refuses to learn Dutch. And hell knows we tried to force it upon them in the Golden Era
Stroopwafels at my place, anytime. You pick the language…

" BTW, for those of you who don’t know, Stroopwafels are little crisp waffle cookies with a gooey caramel-like filling. Mmmm. Quite possibly the finest combination of starch, sugar and butter known to man."

Actually, the filling is the closest thing that us Dutchies have to maple syrup. But DAMN they’re good arent they ??

OK enough language boasting and cookie babbling now… and I PROMISE I’ll try and learn these #@%@#%^#%^@#%!#$ codes that enable one to quote properly.

Hey Coldfire, I knew it was German, give me some credit! I can actually read German quite well, understand it less well and am hopeless at speaking it.

And Stroopwafel filling does taste sorta like maple syrup (I just had another to be sure :)), although its texture is more caramel-like in my opinion. Of course, I may just be getting the inferior export Stroopwafels…I plan on conducting extensive taste tests this spring in Amsterdam.

Yes, I am pathetic, I am actually going to Amsterdam for the cookies. Well, I plan on stocking up on the Gouda, too…

BTW, you are always welcome to come visit us here in Heidelberg.

Tot ziens!

You must have picked that one up off of one of the 10 million German tourists that flood our beaches every year

Next time 'round, try “Leerdammer” kaas (cheese). Rich, tasty and creamy young cheese. Yummy !
