Cat knocked my 3-LCD front projector off the shelf onto the floor, it fell about 8 inches onto carpet. Now there’s some slight keystoning that I didn’t notice before. Are these things that delicate or did I just notice happen to notice it now that I was trying to set it up again? Is there a specific mirror or something internally that could cause this if it got knocked around. There’s no “keystone correction” on this model, there are mechanical lens shift adjustments both horizontal and vertical, pixel alignment and sharpness are still perfect. It’s a 12 foot throw onto a 100 inch sreen, top is two inches wider than the bottom and the projector is acually below the bottom of the screen.
Projectors are quite delicate and precision devices. Since you say that the pixels are still aligned, it could be that the optical block has shifted slightly.
As I understand it, keystoning happens when the projector beam axis is angled up or down. Perhaps all you need to do is to readjust the mounting position and fine tune the zoom, focus and vertical lens shift.
Two inches seems to me to be in the right ballpark of the keystoning you would expect based on the set up that you described. The top of the screen would be about 5% further from the projector than the bottom if the bottom was lined up with the projector, so you would expect it to be about 5% bigger, give or take some.
My sisters using it now but when I get a chance I’ll make sure it’s perfectly level, someone on another board suggested using a bubble level. It’s hard because the shelf in the cheap Ikea coffee table is bending under the weight.
Assuming the optical block has shifted, is that something that a service technician could fix by turning a screw or two, or would it need a whole new light engine assembly or something?
If I email a couple of repair shops, are they apt to be upset at me asking for advice, or hopeful that they’ll get the job?
Why don’t you ask over at the AVSForum?
